Wonderful State Park

Family Vacation with adult children. Had a wonderful time walking the trails, cycling and playing pickball. Did the Segway tour and enjoyed it.

Finally saw the bald eagles!

There are at least two bald eagle nests in the park. The staff at the nature center can provide maps and directions. After years of seeing empty nests because I was visiting at the wrong time of the year, I finally hit the jackpot. The eaglets are almost as big as the parents so it won't be long before they are on their own. Such magnificent birds.

Free bikes!

We stopped at the welcome center and found out they have a ride share program. Free bikes y’all! You get three hours free and then after that it’s $5. They have 29 miles of paved trails and many more trails to hike too. Win win! Oh and a beautiful pier you can walk on, beautiful, sand beaches, try Normas campground, and just an overall great park to stay at or visit

Great state park with biking / walking trails

My parents and I had done a few walks and bike rides within the park. As a note, there are quite a few bikers on the paths, so if you are walking, please be aware that you may have to let them pass fairly frequently. The paths are maintained very well, there are many boardwalk-type paths; some lead you to water at a dead end for a viewpoint and some continue onward. I would suggest bringing binoculars as there is a lot of waterfowl and birds in general - we were fortunate enough to see Bald Eagle chicks in a nest! What a wonderful experience! There are also a couple restaurants in the area - we ate at the one in the wooded area as the beach one wasn't open yet. Some of the path runs along the road at points.
Also, one of the best things about this State Park is the free bikes! You will need one phone and app per bicycle borrowed, as you need to register your phone number with the app and don't have the option to borrow more than one (we double checked!). The bikes are pretty decent for being free - and it beats paying $25 / day / bike!

This is one of the best state parks I've ever enjoyed! No entrance fee, miles of bike trails, free bicycles, dog parks, fishing....rental cabins, hotel, restaurant, WOW

Lots of trails to explore, Nature Center. We saw wildlife as we walked the trails. Also great to try an e-bike rental here/see how we liked that, as we explored. And no Entry Fee!

Plenty of exercise!

Stayed in Orange Beach within close proximity to the Gulf State Park. So glad we brought our bikes. The main road is set up to accommodate cyclists so we biked to the park nearly every day the weather permitted. The park is AMAZING! Probably the highlight of our trip.

Great way to spend our days

Thoroughly enjoyed the trails through the park. Easily accessible from trail heads. Paths/trails are well maintained and shared with walkers, joggers and cycling enthusiasts.

Very well maintained trails and facilities

The park has 28 miles of paved and boardwalk trails. There are campgrounds, a lake with kayak rentals, bike and segway rentals, a restaurant, pavilions and picnic areas with a walkway across the highway to the beach and Lodge area. It's beautiful!

Biking at Gulf State Park

Lovely park for bike riding. Miles of trails that you can ride short distances or longer distances. We brought our bikes but you can rent bikes in the park for free!! The roads are flat and wide. Restrooms scattered throughout the park. We road around 10 miles one day and around 15 miles the next day. Lots of people walking also.
