UK Visitor to Mobile

I really enjoyed my visit to the Richards DAR Mansion in Mobile. I was made very welcome and the tour was interesting and very informative. It was a treat to be invited to have tea and biscuits with the ladies following my visit. Excellent.

Many Volunteers, so we can enjoy this site

The house is a labor of love for Mobilians, and their generosity allows us visitors to enjoy it.
The house was gifted to the city for preservation, run, and maintained by the Daughters of the Revolution. High school volunteers run the tour, and many of the artifacts in the house were donated by people who cared about preserving the past.

Another great benefit is that the house is a mere 8 minutes walk off Dauphine street. If you are lucky, you can plan the visit before or after taking a good meal on Dauphine.

A hidden gem

2022年12月

A group of us visited the Richards House for the Christmas Open House, and were delighted. Interesting local history; beautifully decorated; tours given by very poised young women [high school aged], dressed in contemporary styles. We enjoyed our tour very much, and want to return when it isn't so crowded.

Our tour guide was wonderful.
Roma gave us a wonderful tour of the house.
Grounds are beautiful as well

Loved this historical museum

This place is fabulous. The tour guides were so friendly and courteous! You felt right at home. What a wonderful tour my teenage granddaughter and I had today. We were awed by the beautiful historical furnishings. Afterwards, we were invited to tea and cookies. Loved it. Planning to come again in December to see the Christmas decorations. A must see in Mobile. Thank you ladies of the DAR.

Wonderful historical house tour

Tour guides were very knowledgeable about the house, the family who lived there, and the contents inside. It was very informative and educational. Allow 2 hours to view the entire home and garden.

Extremely gracious welcome

Tough to get into with limited hours and rental functions, but I made it - and somehow qualified for free admission too boot (Mobile Day?). This is an ornate and pretty example of an Italianate townhouse owned by a successful family, lovingly looked after by the DAR. Not only that, they actually recognize that, just because furniture is 150 years old, not all of it is in danger of collapse nor actually priceless: some of us still actually use this stuff in our own homes: it's very well constructed, and replacements languish at local antique stores for lack of modern interest. In short - you're invited to sit down. My tour guide was more than willing to spend time and converse about the entire property as well as restoration and other activities that have going on there. Not rushed at all, even as other groups moved through the house. Kudos indeed. It's not a mansion, and could certainly be done in less time, but you do get good access throughout and if remotely interested in this sort of place, this is a very good example.

it was wonderful

I arrived at this beautiful house and was pleasantly surprised to meet a gorgeous woman. She gave us a house and quickly told the story of this house, although she was very busy with other things, she was still very nice and spent 20 minutes and did not even take money for a ticket! I appreciate such people, they give pleasant emotions to people and love their work and life! I advise everyone to see this house! My son is 2.5 years old

Lovely historical home

The house was supposed to be closed this weekend but the website didn’t reflect that. I just happened to wring the bell for the heck of it and the chair of the D.A.R. Happened to be there and gave us a fabulous tour anyway. If you love historical old houses, this one is great. They are going through some repairs but it was still wonderful to see. Their little gift shop was also lovely as I found 4 things I had to buy!
