Extremely informative! We did not know much about the Carnival tradition but sure learned a lot. And the costumes were beautiful. We highly recommend taking the guided tour versus waking through on your own. The guides know so much more than you can ever glean on your own from the displays. And they are very friendly and answer all of your questions. We happened to be there on the day of a parade (not planned that way) and they were bubbling with energy in the museum so that made it even more fun.

This museum is full of trains worn by various Kings and Queens over the years. You may be fortunate enough to catch a guided tour as we did. If not, there is a self guided tour available on a smart phone. Be sure to get a picture on a float, and pose as a king or queen. The gist shop has all sorts of reasonably priced mementos.

different floors but mostly all the same thing. You seen one robe, you've seen 'em all. Don't waste your time!

Stopped here in April 2022 for a fascinating (but also very long and overly detailed tour). The amount of memorabilia is amazing, and the docent definitely knew her stuff. There was probably too much detail, and some of the rooms in the collection became repetitive during the tour. But, overall, we learned a lot about the history of Carnival in Mobile, and we would recommend this to any first-time visitor to Mobile.

Really enjoyed the tour and the film to all fully explain the roots of as well as the origins of Mardi Gras. The displays were wonderful, the gowns were beautiful, the history was impressive. Loved seeing and hearing about all of the articles, clothing, artifacts, history that we learned about. The guide was local and he seemed very knowledgeable. It is a worthwhile exhibit to see in understanding key points about Mobile, the people, the history. The only thing I would like is for the guide to wear some type of microphone in the initial stages of the tour because the wonderful music is a little loud. Again, well worth your while.

The staff here are the most incredible people I have ever had the joy of meeting! They made the experience even better than it already is! Not to mention they have preserved everything about Mardi Gras so well!

What an amazing display of Mardi Gras memorabilia. Loved the video description of how it all started. The detailed costumes and carnival pieces are amazing.

Every time I'm in or near Mobile, I go to this museum. The gowns and costumes are magnificent and so much fun to see up close. I would call if a must see for any one that likes to see pretty things.

I used to come to this place years ago when I was a kid..was it the same or another kind of museum with old cars and old weapons..does it still have those things?

The location of the Mobile Carnival Museum used to be the Mobile History Museum and it housed the displays you describe. In 2005 that museum moved to a larger space on Royal Street and it is now known as the History Museum of Mobile. Their exhibits are rotated so you should call them to find out what is currently being featured. The Mobile Carnival Museum highlights the history of Mardi Gras in Mobile.

Hi! We went on saturday, July 25th and it was $5.00 for
me and my daughter and only $2.00 for my granddaughter.
This is very reasonable and worth the price. I think they
said they just had the one price for adults.
