I think this is one of my favorite things we've visited in Shanghai. It's an authentic hundreds-of-year-old art that has thankfully been protected by the government. (Hence, they cannot do anything about the prices as it's government-regulated.) They are hand dyed using handmade stencils. It's interesting that this fabric was actually looked down on at one point for being a "common" fabric. It's really special to see. I'm lucky since my boyfriend is Chinese he can speak to the people working at the shop easily and they're nice people. We bought two wall hangings--the fish. Because when put together they mean a couple that will stay together, or separated they represent wealth. The people working let me pick a small animal in the fabric to take home as well, which I gave to my mother. (I picked a mouse because she's year of the mouse.) I really recommend reading up about this before you get there, but they also have a pamphlet there in English that they provided me.

This isn't really an exhibition hall - it's a store to buy beautiful traditional cloth that is overpriced. I loved the fabric and really enjoyed winding around the little allies to find the place.

I’m personally drawn to these fabrics so found the place very special. We took a bit more time to review the many beautiful patterns on offer than expected, but the shopkeepers were gracious enough to stay open and not rush us while we made our selections. Their English was limited though, so it was helpful to have our daughter with us to do some of the talking in Mandarin. That’s possibly why another reviewer may have thought them unfriendly; language barrier. Later, we came across a shop selling Nankeen products in Qibao, but the quality was not as good although their prices were cheaper. The Qibao place also did not have the fabrics by the yard (meter).

My sister-in-law took me here. I thought, why do you want to take me to a fabric store. Well, it was awesome. I love blue & white things. They have a nice display of how they make the fabrics. But don't expect a guided tour or much more than "you try on?" Still, I loved it. I bought a blouse, two pillow covers, and a tiny key chain rabbit. I wear the shirt all the time and absolutely love the pillow covers on my bed.

這家在住宅區內的小舖賣的全都是自家染的藍白色花布工藝，有衣服、小錢包、枱布、圍布、鞋子等等。地下是店舖，二樓是展覽中心。
有點貴（一件衣服五百元以上），但車功、質量都不錯，可以考慮。

Visited today. They never said a word to us. The lights were barely turned on for us in the store downstairs, and not at all in the exhibit upstairs. Then we were shoved out the door into a torrential downpour.

We are really pleased to have found this great little shop/ museum and will definitely be returning for gifts and new purchases!! They have many objects (cushions, clothes, bedding, bags etc) from which to choose and all with beautiful designs. The museum (upstairs) has some great photos and instruments linked to the making. Being a 'typical tourist', I wish there had been some English explanations of the process as I would have loved to understand his historic technique a bit more.

I've been to Shanghai about 6 times. I always try to get to the "Chinese Hand Printed Blue Nankeen Gallery" as it is my favourite store-gallery.
I first visited about 20 years ago and I keep coming back each visit.If you're looking for a unique experience then add this to your list.
First of all this "attraction" is primarily a store where you can purchase unique blue printed fabric items. (wall hangings, table cloths/runners, door dividers, clothes, toys, umbrellas, etc, as well as raw fabric. I usually pick up several metres of fabric which I then have made into pillow cases or curtains etc.
Secondly there is an upstairs gallery of some antiques fabrics.
When you see the material you might think it looks more Japanese in style as I first did. But apparently it has a long history in China.
Definitely worth a visit. You can walk there is about ten minutes from the Jing'an metro stop.
FYI - many local don't know about this place. The trip advisor map has the location correct. The location on Google Maps (as of 2016/07) was incorrect.
