This was a fun, informative, and interactive tour. We started at the cafe with a barista-style caffecito. Our guide, Cesar, was well-versed in different styles of coffee preparation and helped us understand how to detect the various tastes and scents in our coffee. After that, we made our way to the plantation where we learned about cacao growth and production. Cesar took us through step by step and eventually toward what we recognized as chocolate. We got to sample different versions and blend our own to our liking. We ended with a cup of a fresh dark roast (and Grandma’s pancake) and a deeper appreciation for the cultivation of coffee and chocolate. As a bonus, we happened upon a copo vendor (Copos Peña) just up the road and bought a couple for the drive back to the hotel.
