This was a fun time but not our favorite. The ziplines were really uncomfortable...all of our weight was on our back/waist and did not use the harness around our legs. It's not their fault the water was low but we kept getting stuck. They were really patient with getting us out, though. And just be careful, take off wedding rings...

One of the best adventures we have ever been on as a family! We were scared to do it and almost backed out but thanks to our guides Berto and Prado - they couldn't have been more patient and helpful. To get to the river you need to do two small ziplines and a little hike but once we got down to the river and on the tubes - our family of four loved it. When it said river drift - we were thinking more relaxing but the white water tubing was thrilling and even though we got wet and got a few minor bruises - we thought it was fantastic and would do it again - I personally could have gone longer and I believe we were on the water at least 45 minutes. Not for the faint of heart but if you are seeking a fun and adventurous time while in Costa Rica - this is for you. Berto and Prado were the best!

We had a fantastic time and the guides were excellent! But all going need to know what this event is, and is not.
It is not a lazy river float - it is pretty rough rapids and several small falls. You should expect to overturn in your tubes a number of times - and to get stuck on rocks in rapids as well.
I personally think 13 is the best young age; however a 9 year old young lady went and did pretty well and exclaimed it was the greatest day of her life - so make your own decision. My wife bailed on the activity after reading other reviews, and I think she made the correct decision. My 20 year old son and I throughly enjoyed it - but I am hurting the day after, as I was completely tossed over - landed on a big rock and bruised my back (while choking on a little water…)
The scenery was incredible and we enjoyed the zips down to the river as well!
I would recommend this for any adrenaline junkie, and suggest families with small kids find other activities.

My 20 and 25 year old thought this was an awesome tour but dangerous. At age 60, but adventurous, I was terrified. I would not recommend this tour unless you are fit and an adrenaline junkie. I would not have made it through if it wasn’t for our one tour guide, Jeremy. He made sure I made it down safely by staying close.

What an adventure!!
we were a family of 5, the zipline was great wish they had more in this activity but they were long and high above the canopy so it was great.
The river drift is exceptional, great fun, you do get scrapes and bruises but it is worth it!!
We had 3 amazing guides who took care of us, especially my two girls, they had help every step of the way.

My friend (late 40s) and I (early 40s), both female, signed up for this -- ziplining and river tubing – and OMG it was a blast and seriously the most awesome couple of hours!! Though my friend was a lot more nervous than I throughout the adventure, at the end of the tubing I asked the guides if we could please do it all over again :)
I have done ziplining and rafted numerous Class 4-5 rivers in the past, but this didn’t stop the adrenaline from pumping! My friend and I were the only two on the “tour” that morning and our two guides (Christian and David “Jefferson”) were FANTASTIC – super friendly and ensuring our safety and fun-level was the priority. They kindly offered to carry my water bottle for me (I can’t go without water for 3 hours!) but then accidentally left it at the beginning of the river tubing — doh! I guess that’s my present to the Costa Rican River Gods. They also carried my friend’s phone in their waterproof container as we tubed down the river.
Admittedly the ziplining was a bit blah for me — I’ve done it before and don’t feel it overly adventurous, but hey, that’s just me! There were two ziplines: one long, slower one and the second one shorter and faster. On the first one you have the option to go tandem with a guide, go solo (knowing you’ll probably get stuck toward the end and have to pull yourself in the rest of the way – easy enough if you have the upper body strength) or go solo and get the guides to pull you in the rest of the way (they admit that’s the worst option of the three). My friend went tandem and I went solo, pulling myself in at the end. For the second zipline, woah, that was pretty fast and I’m so glad David was able to stop us in time!! Lol.
Note there are slippery muddy tracks between the ziplines and then between the final zipline and the entrance to the river for the tubing – so make sure you wear shoes with good grip. This being said, it’s nothing too strenuous and the guides are there to help you if you need it.
The tubing was an absolute blast. Alas, the water level of the river is very low at this time of year and the route we took probably more technical than “fun” — but it was still awesome, even though it was only Class 1-2 rapids! It rained briefly whilst we were on the river — so refreshing! And hey, we were wet any way :)
There seem to be some relatively negative online reviews about this “tour”, but if you read the fine print (and ALL the online reviews!) before heading out, and if you listen to the guides and follow their instructions, you’ll love it and find there are no problems at all. There is no reason to get “banged up”, bruised or flip your tube — just follow guidance, it’s that simple! And okay, so yes, my friend flipped once and almost flipped a second time (she’s not a super strong swimmer), but the guides were there for us and helped her get right back up and into her tube within seconds. SAFETY IS THEIR PRIORITY.
At the end of the tubing there are outdoor showers and inside toilets / changing rooms. You’re given a small towel to dry off and a hot sugar cane drink which was delicious! We ended up getting back on the bus in wet clothes, as we’d decided not to take a change of clothes with us — there’s no real need, and we left everything in the locked lockers at the start of the adventure.
We paid $17 extra per person (round trip) for transport from our hotel in La Fortuna to the Sky Adventures headquarters, which was definitely worth it. The small shuttle was full of other adventurers going on different tours with the same company.
DO THIS!! It’s so much fun. Sorry I don’t have any photos to share – I didn’t take my phone with me (and you don’t need to – if you want digital memories, you can pay for a Sky Adventures photographer to go with you on any of their tours).

I've done most extreme sports in my time, rafting , sky dive , aerobatics , cave diving and many others. River drift is up there with the most crazy thing I've ever done. It's not for the timid that's for sure. These are proper rapids you're hurtling down ! Levi and Haviar were top guides and work super hard. I was the only booking and they still ran the trip. This is one experiences you will never forget!

By far, this is a must do. While only 2 zip lines, they are good zip lines (Wish there were a couple more though:)). There were 5 of us in the group, plus 3 guides. Free lockers are available at the starting point, and you are able to provide dry clothes/towel that they will transport to the pick up point. Showers/changing room/towels are provided at the end. But-towels are TINY hand towels so best to bring your own. Also, showers are outside so be prepared. It's more of a rinse off shower. After getting our gear and a thorough safety explanation, we were on our way to the first zip line. Our guides were each very helpful. Great ziplining. Little bit of a trek between lines, and then another trek down to the rafting point-which included a rope bridge across the river. Again, full instructions on how to maneuver the individual tubes. Water was so refreshing! but a little low. The guides were very helpful if/when someone got stuck behind a rock and could not get out. SO MUCH FUN. There were category 1 and 2 rapids. As you have no control on the tube really, sometimes you are backwards, sometimes spinning, sometimes flipping over and getting back on. You are on the water about an hour. At the end it is a little walk up the road to the pick up position. There you can dry off and they have a van to take you back to the beginning. Do not miss this! Just plan on doing your zip lining another time!

The Sky River Drift was a last minute decision my husband and I made as an excursion on our honeymoon. We were very pleasantly surprised! We are not scheduled tour group type people, so we drove ourselves in our rental car. Upon arrival we made our way up to the ticket counter/locker/restaurant area. Everyone was very friendly and all of the facilities seemed clean and safe. We were able to schedule our tour for the 1030am drift...no problem not having a pre-scheduled tour (possibly because we were in the off season). We changed into our swim/ziplining attire (dont forget your water shoes!) We kept stuff in our car, which was safe in the parking lot. We had 2 guides, David and Marcel, who were the best! We got very lucky and ended up being just the 2 of us with the 2 guides. The guides packed away our dry clothes in a bag that ended up meeting back up with us at the end of the tour. There were 2 ziplines, some hiking, and a metal cable rope we crossed the river on. Then we began the river drift. The river wasn't flowing too crazy, but it was definitely enough! Make sure to follow instructions and you should be fine. My husband flipped at least 3 times, but he survived lol. We walked away with a few scrapes and sore muscles, but it was so worth it! Our guides would stop along the drift to point out birds, monkeys, spiders (HUGE ones eeekk!) When we were done we ended up at a little ranch type house with restrooms to change in. By that time a van pulled up with our dry clothes, and we were given sugar cane juice to drink. It was a short drive back to the locker/restaurant area, where we purchased the flash drive for the pictures the guides were taking along our tour. Because it was our honeymoon, the guides gave us free beers to celebrate with which we enjoyed out on the restaurant's balcony with a view of the Arenal volcano. All in all it was a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend it! (Don't forget to tip your guides, they work their asses off keeping you moving down the river!)

This was my family's favorite activity while in Costa Rica (and we did many including zip lining, waterfall rappelling, horseback riding). Though all the activities were fun, this one was the best. My husband and I took our three kids (ages 15, 12, 11) and they did great. However, this is not for the faint-hearted! It is an adventure, and you will get some scrapes and bruises. My arms were sore at the end (though I'm not in good shape). The guides were great and one specifically looked out for my son. One guide rode in front and one in the back, the other one floated along to watch for needs. It was well run and the guides were experienced. We also did the sky tram/zipline at Sky Adventures and all three tours were top notch.

the water is cold but you will be riding a tube , so you will be OK, go there is an amazing experience and very safe, my 10 and 14 years daughters enjoyed a lot

We have an adventurous family with a 10 and 12 year old. We are planning a separate Canyoning and zip line tour. We've also done a class 2/3 W. Virginia rafting trip last summer. We are always looking for new adventures.

My kids (10 and 14) are also adventurous. The river drifting was fun but not as adventurous as we expected. It was not our first choice. Our first choice was class 3/4 river rafting with another company, unfortunately all the class 3/4 rafting were sold out during the Christmas time.

The website shows the cost and time slots available. The adventure took about 3.5 hours. But you can call their toll free number on the website and you'll get a person who speaks fluent English to answer all your specific questions, like cost, discounts, what timeslots are better, how to pay, what clothes to wear, the exact process of hiking, zip lining, river rafting and what they do with your change of clothes, personal belongings, etc. They are super organized and make it so you can fully enjoy the experience without worrying about your stuff. My son wore his go pro on his helmet! Got great videos and pix! The guides also took some photos for us.

I'd call it more adventurous than strenuous. The ride down the river did beat me up a little bit, but it's didn't require a lot of strength. There was a guy in my group that was perhaps over large and under fit and he did fine.
