We had surflessons with Chris for a week. Our expectations were really high and it was even better than we could have ever imagined! He is an excellent surf teacher with a lot of patience and always really motivated to get us on the best waves. Our skills improved a lot because of the awesome coaching and on the last day we spend hours in the water catching green waves - we felt almost professional ;) we are absolutly sure that he's the best surf teacher in the world.
Sus made pictures from us while we were outside surfing and during the breaks we were analizing them - this helped a lot to overcome some little mistakes. And of course they are a nice memory. She also made yummy homemade cookies and banana bread - it was almost like in paradise.
We are really sad that the week passed by so quickly - we would have loved to stay with them for the rest of the holidays. We can highly recommend them - there's nothing better you could chose.

My daughter (12) and myself had the opportunity to get surf lessons from Chris. It was a perfect private lesson experience. Sus and Chris would pick us up, set camp on the beach, prepare our boards, offer healthy snacks and refreshments at breaks. In the water, Chris was teaching us how to surf but also how to pick a wave, how to surf safe and respect the other surfers. Sus got great pics of us. We felt totally in good hands. Our surf progressed so much in such a short time . I will definitely get more surf lessons for my family from Chris when we are back in Costa Rica. And highly recommend him.

Chris und Su sind zwei sehr sympatische und unkomplizierte Menschen. Beide wissen viel über Montezuma und deren Umgebung. Chris hatte viel Geduld, gab tolle Tipps und er hat uns mit seiner kompetenten Art viel beigebracht. Wir fühlten uns im Wasser immer sicher und hatten jede Menge Spass. In der Pause und nach den Surfstunden wurden wir mit Wasser, Früchten und Cookies versorgt. Es war eine tolle Erfahrung und wir würden es jedem empfehlen in Montezuma bei Chris Surfstunden zu nehmen, egal welches Niveau man bereits hat.

Chris is a fantastic surf coach; I progressed so much throughout the week and it was a lot of fun all the way! He knows the local area so well so he picks the best spot for the day based on the weather and my ability... which also meant I got to see quite a lot of the peninsula. He gave really clear instructions, was patient as well as very encouraging. Pushed me to progress but listened when I needed a break... I can't recommend chris enough. On the last night he even made a bbq on the beach after sunset and set up a camp pfire... I had the best experience and a great time getting to know chris and his partner sus... who took loads of great photos: THANK YOU both. I will be back one day :)

I’ve wanted to try surfing for about 20 years and had always been intimidated. This vacation I decided to stop dreaming and finally fulfill my desire. I was very nervous until Chris and Sus picked me and my husband up from our Air BnB. I immediately felt comfortable with them and their knowledge of surfing and the peninsula. Chris’s instruction style is wonderful. He takes a daunting concept and breaks it down into smaller, attainable feats. It really helped me build my confidence and not get discouraged. I really appreciated his ability to find the positive in each attempt and also constructively give me feedback so that my next try was even more successful. Time flew by as he kept patiently working with me, and before I knew it I was able to ge from never even touching a surfboard to standing and riding waves. I went to bed that night dreaming about surfing and I cannot wait to do it again!

Montezuma Surf - Chris and Suze where do we start? We spent three wonderful days learning to surf during out stay in Montezuma. We were three beginners and with Chris' passion for surfing and knowledge of the tides, weather and waves we were all standing up on our first day and surfing to the shore by the third day. We went to different beaches on the peninsula to be in the best conditions for our ability and always felt completely safe and at ease.
Compared to other surf lessons in the area the value for money was outstanding considering the time and expertise we were given.
For an energy boost in between surfing Suze baked us cookies and the best banana bread we have ever had!
On top of the surfing we really enjoyed spending time with Chris and Suze and hearing their stories and all of their local knowledge. They are really lovely people and there is no doubt that this will be a highlight of your time in Costa Rica

Chris and Susy provided me and my girlfriend with the best introductory surf experience! We took six days of private lessons with them. They took us to numerous spots in the area and provided great instructions for us to learn to surf. Their hospitality and knowledge of the area was also wonderful. Both of us were beginners, but now we feel confident enough to go anywhere and surf on our own.
Highly recommended if you're new to surfing, want to improve, or just want to get an introduction to the surf in Montezuma and surrounding areas. Thank you for the great experience!

Chris is a great guy and great instructor. We had a miscommunication and he was expecting us a month later. We adjusted and spent three days with Chris and his assistant Carlos going from complete novice to the ability to stand up.
Having never done this before I had no idea what to expect. I was expecting an hour lesson on the local beach, I was wrong. Chris and Carlos picked us up at our hotel and we followed the waves and tide.
They both took great joy and pride showing us local attractions and filling us in on local topics on the drive. We saw things we never would have seen because of Chris.
The lessons were exhausting and long but we had so much fun. I had a hard start but they never gave up on me. They had me riding the white water somewhat consistently by the end. Like any good teacher they were proud and excited when we were successful.
The best part, other the sunset at the hilltop pool on our last day together, was Chris just posting pictures on his Face Book page we could look at and copy.
You will get more than you expect with Chris. We can't say enough good things about our first surf experience. Thank you Chris.

Book this company! My wife and I happened upon this company by booking a trip package through our hotel. Our hotel hosts raved about chris and Carlos our guides. When we met them for the first time outside our hotel they exude "the Real Deal". We quickly learned that their surf style was matched with great experience. What made these guys and our experience extra special is their commitment to you to live the surf lifestyle even for only a day or two. While many tours are willing to take your money, give you a board and some instruction and let you roll around in the waves, Chris and Carlos are truly excited to get you up on the board and riding towards shore. Their love for the sport is contagious and comes accords in all that they do. We took a small break and had some fresh cut fruit on the beach. In keeping with their surfer lifestyle. Chris and Carlos make sure you get the whole experience too. After surfing a sunset bonfire on the beach or a trip up to a dinner spot overlooking the waves, immerses you into the lifestyle. If you want to stand on top of a surf board book somewhere else. If you want to learn to surf and live the surfing lifestyle. Book here!!!!

As a Jamaican who has taken surfing lessons before, you wouldn't think that a single lesson would take my breath away and leave me completeley astounded, but Montezuma Surf did exactly that.
The first thing that any prospective surfers should know is that Chris, the teacher, is probably the most amazing teacher you will ever have. He is not only an incredible surfer who has travelled the world chasing waves, but he is also an patient instructor and inspiring person. Chris takes a huge amount of effort in prepping the students in small class sizes where you not only learn the fundamentals of surfing, but also the important safety guidelines. One of the girls in our group was terrified of waves, yet by the end of our quick prep, she was fearlessly marching into the rushing swells of Playa Hermosa.
The lesson was spectacular for several reasons: the first was the combination of Chris' outgoing personality yet professional approach to teaching. The second was his encouraging and non critical method - he instructed and was understanding of our individual demands and differences as students, waiting untill every single one of us could stand up and catch waves before allowing us to surf without his constant attention. The third was the beach he brought us to, although Chris is based in Montezuma, he is willing to travel all over the Nicoya Peninsula in order to find the best waves whether that is in Santa Teresa, Montezuma, Malpais, or Cabuya. We arrived at 2 pm on the edge of a never-ending white sand beach- a photodesritption of paradise. We surfed till sunset, and then joined a bonfire with other surfers. Chris knows all the surfers on the peninsula (many of them who he taught himself), and everyone welcomed us into the post surf celebrations.
I honestly believe that it would be a fruitless search if you tried to find a better surf school - my only regret is that I cannot surf with Chris every day.
