Spent the last day of our trip on an offshore trip with Captain Fabio and First mate Fabio Jr. We are experienced fishermen in the Chesapeake Bay and have done some offshore fishing so we knew what to expect. The boat was a workhorse and the captain a magician with the way he handled it! Hooked four sailfish, line snapped on one, one we brought to the boat and released due to an obvious injury and the other two we brought on board! The bite turned on fairly quickly and lasted several hours. The three of us that fished each had an opportunity (or two) to fight a sailfish and were fully satisfied to just enjoy the seas when the bite turned off. The drinks were plentiful, lunch was simple but tasty, and the day was phenomenal. When we weren't fighting fish we were exchanging fishing stories with Fabio Jr. Our family definitely made memories on this trip and will be back to fish with Bluefin again.

I sure wish I had read 378SteveS review before I booked this trip. His review was the same as mine. We had very similar problems. Never before have I trolled an entire fishing trip. We went to get live bait and the line was so old it only picked up 3 small fish to use as bait. Meanwhile, other boats were out there getting many live bait fish to use during their trip. My kids and I basically slept the entire trip. We caught 3 small fish. I realize that can be fishing - but we were not set for success on this charter. I do not think we were using the correct lures as well and the equipment was very old. The company forgot about our trip, despite the fact I had an email confirmation. It was thrown together last minute. I was very disappointed as this was one of the highlights we were looking forward to most on our Costa Rican trip.

On the day I turned 50 (march the 5th 2019) I went fishing with Bluefin. The guys of Bluefin where realy friendly, they even arranged a birthday cake.
I had a full day and lost my first 2 sailfishes, the crew was even more sick off it than me, they really wanted me to catch something. I've succeeded and caught 4 sailfishes and had an amaizing day!

Not one bite in 6 hours of trolling. Was told it was “VERY slow” once on boat, but was not given another option....like bottom fishing, reef, etc.
I get that fishing can be slow, but didn’t expect equipment problems on top of it. Replaced 2 engine system parts on trip...air intake, and water pump? Had to deal with black smoke and very loud engine.
I would do your due diligence first. Rest of my Costa Rican vacation has been great.

We were picked up at our hotel by Manuel and taken to the Quepos Marina where we put on our boat for one heck of a good time. We had the most enjoyable time with Fabio and Fernando. So accommodating for my son and me. We even enjoyed lessons. My son had an 80-100# roster fish but just couldn’t land him but we’ll take the 40# one we did get in the boat. The sea was magical, water so clear and wildlife to boot! Can’t say enough about the Blue Fin I.

Elvis and Cheetah were great guides, friendly and knowledgeable . In addition to putting us onto 5 sailfish, 3 of which we landed, Cheetah fixed us a great lunch and provided water, soda, beer, and the best pineapple ever. The gear was great and they knew exactly what they were doing. We also saw turtles, dolphins, and rays. We highly recommend this trip for friends, couples, or families.

I got a charter last min on one of their three boats. If your looking for high end gear on a high end boat this is not the charter for you. If you don’t mind older gear on a less cushy boat, these guy know how to put you on fish. We used old beat penn 50s trolling squid and ballyhoo rigs utalizing out riggers. We hooked up with two sailfish in the 100lb range. Then we got a small mahi, perfect for eating. We had the marina cook it for our dinner and it was amazing. Lastly we hooked up with a 300lb stripped marlin. Fish of a lifetime for me. I spend an hour and a half stand up fighting the marlin. They have a chair but I prefer stand up. They have a gimble belt but no shoulder harness. Captain monuvered the boat like a pro to keep the fish off the back. Lunch of fresh fruit and sandwiches was very good. Plenty of beer, sodas, juices and water were available. There is very little shade so dress in covering breathable clothes and use sunscreen. Best bang for your buck charter in Quepos

Ive been a fisherman my whole life, living in New England. Always dreamed of catching a big sail fish. Not only did we catch one, but caught and released 5 on the day trip!

Our family chartered a full day of deep sea fishing with Franklin as a birthday present for my husband. We had a tremendous day. Caught 4 sails, two tuna and some Bonita. It was a spectacular day. Franklin and his crew were more than accommodating. We had drinks snacks and a wonderful fresh mahi-mahi sandwich for lunch. If you are looking to get out there and catch some big ones then Franklin is your man.

Thank you to Miguel, Fabio & Fabio Jr for a wonderful inshore and deep sea fishing experience in Quepos, Costa Rica!!! Alan & I will never forget this amazing trip thanks to all of our awesome new friends! We will be back for more for sure!! PURA VIDA!!!
