We did a half day charter on the Kenai in mid July 2024 with King of the River guide Jason. This was one of the absolute highlights of our 4 week Alaskan holiday. Jason is a brilliant guide, extremely knowledgeable and friendly with a great sense of humour, got us novices kitted out in our waders, taught us the “flossing” technique and within minutes we were hooking into big fighting sockeye. We hit our quota within 3 hours of the most action-packed fishing we’ve ever done! Jason is so experienced that even the local Alaska Dept of Fish and Game ranger who was fishing nearby came over to ask him for advice.
We really like the “One Stop Shop” service of King of the River – providing all the fishing gear, netting and filleting the fish and assisting/advising on processing. We highly recommend King of the River – we will definitely do another charter with them if we are fortunate enough to travel to Alaska again from our distant home in Western Australia. Thank you Jason, Dean and Christie for a magical experience which we will remember for the rest of our lives. One big item off our bucket list!

Cannot say enough of what an amazing time my clients had with King of the River - Dean and his captains took such wonderful care of our clients and I am so thankful for all your flexibility making this a trip they will remember for a lifetime. Also a huge thank you for the 24 hrs. care Christie (reservationist and coordinator) did with all my last minute request. They go above and beyond and we will continue to send all our clients your way.

We met Dean at the ramp and started out on our Sockeye (red) salmon adventure. He set us us and tutored us on the fishing technique and started catching fish immediately. My wife couldn’t deal with wading the river currents for the best fishing so while Dean helped the other three of us land fish he worked constantly with Marlene to give her a fabulous day of fishing. A true gentleman and excellent guide.

This was such an amazing fishing trip! First of all, Dean was very understanding about my physical limitations and he worked out a way to accommodate me. I reeled in so many fish that my arm was sore! It was an incredibly fun time and I’m so grateful that I could do this. Thank you!

An absolutely amazing trip. The instructions from Jason were very clear to meet him in the morning. Jason recommended the perfect time to head out to meet the run of salmon with the incoming tide. The views around the river were astounding with many bald eagles coming to watch us fish throughout the day. We easily limited out on sockeyes and even got the opportunity to land a king from shore (due to Alaskan restrictions that day we couldn't fish for kings from the boat).
Jason was extremely good at reading the river and getting us to the best spots. If we get the opportunity to visit again we will absolutely book with King of the River.

We had so much fun on this trip! Jason and Aaron were truly expert guides. Caught fish, saw beautiful wildlife, and made amazing memories with family and new friends. We will definitely be back. Thank you for an unforgettable day!

Picture this city boy that gets taken to Alaska to do salmon and halibut fishing but had no experience doing such activities. Well by the end of the weeklong trip I came home to plan my next trip with my son to Dean’s place.
Why Dean? Well because his guides are very friendly and helpful, not to mention patient when working with newbies like me. They always made me feel like I knew what I was doing and was a natural. They kept us entertained as well, now I understand the whole fishing story concept. As far as my son is concerned I had a HUGE salmon but it snapped the line.
King of the River has a great setup waiting for you when you book with them. They cleaned up the fish, filleted them and even vacuum packed and froze them. Coming home with that cooler of fish was the best souvenir ever.

I have gone fishing with King of the River a few times and each time was a lot of fun.

Mid August trip on the Kenai, with Quinton ! Just amazing. All in boat limited out in about 4 hours ! I think between the 3 of us we lost about 25. Weather was good, river was good, sockeye were running. Quinton was moving up and down that river to help us all land fish ! Just an amazing day. No doubt the name says it all King of the River !

Hello,
Are you on tour contract with NCL cruise line? I believe our deaf group will be offered to sign up for king salmon fishing trip via Deaf Vacations in July of this year.
Is Lee Murray one of the staff for the tours? If so, which fishing tour will he be on?

Hi Keith!
We don't have any cruise line contracts or connection with Lee Murray, however we take many cruisers out fishing, IF they have enough time on land and transportation to/from the launch. For all our trips, anglers are required to meet us at the boat launch. Some cruise lines will provide drop-off/pick-up services. Otherwise, cruisers will rent a car. Feel free to give me a call with your cruise itinerary, and I can help you find a fishing trip that would best fit your schedule and interests.
