It’s nicely carved and painted but very tall so you have to stand across the street to get it all into a photo. This is a replica of the original Chief Johnson pole. We stopped to admire it on the way to Creek Street.

Impressive Totem Pole

The Chief Johnson Totem Pole is a hard one to miss in Ketchikan because it is so tall and is located near two prime attractions - at the entrance to Creek Street and at Whale park. It is said to be the most frequently photographed Totem pole in the world. It is only a short walk from the cruise ship docks. Hard to miss, and one should stop to gaze and appreciate the artwork.

Lot of Totem poles can be found all around Ketchiken this was also good around the corner , very nicely maintained where the place gets cut off from the world for a good 9 month in a year

Easy to get to

This is a large totem pole, easy to get to from the ares the cruise ships berth and is worth going to see. It is a replica but the story behind it is interesting and if you want to you can learn more in the heritage centre. Worth considering.

The Totem Pole has many stories, it is carved to preserve history.
The original Chief Johnson totem pole was erected by Chief Johnson to honour the passing away of his mother in 1901.
Some remains of the original pole is preserved in the heritage center.
What is there now is a replica of the original totem pole.This is placed at the entrance to Creek street. It is 55 feet high.
The Totem pole is carved out of one long tree trunk.It has amazing sculptures.

Excellent totem and story

This is a large totem pole. It is in excellent condition. The story of the chief is interesting. It is easy to walk to from the cruise ship area.
