Other campers near us blasted music all night. The next day probably the same group decided to shoot their guns for long periods of time. So much for trying to enjoy some peace in the woods away from the city.

One fine fall day, we took a drive along Forest Service Road 300, past Woods Canyon Lake. Bear Canyon Lake was the first stop. The lumpy gravel road is passable by a regular street car, but it can be quite rough. Once one leaves FR300 the conditions worsen. The turn-off to Bear Canyon Lake is less than 15 miles from Woods Canyon Lake. The parking lot is a trail head 0.02 from the lake. This used to be a wonderful gradual switch back trail through tall pines going down to the water. It has now been washed out and not rebuilt, so there are large boulders and steep declines on a base of sand and exposed tree roots, going down. The lake is for fishing by kayak if you wish to carry it down.

This is a pretty lake. It is only accessible via gravel roads, so it takes a while to get there. Then, you need to hike down to the lake. It's a short hike, but there are some steeper places. If you don't like hikes, I recommend that you stop at Woods Canyon Lake. Easy to see from the parking lot or just a few feet to the edge.

Visited with friends in the area, will go back to fish during the week to avoid the weekend crowd. Good Luck Fishing.

This was our first time here and it was so pretty there were a lot of trees everywhere. There is no entrance/camping fee so that was nice. They have a lot of hiking trails everywhere. There is a long stretch of dirt road probably better suited for a 4x4 our car is a 2wd and it did ok but there was a lot of shaking going on. There are different camping areas some accommodate 10 people others 20 so be on the lookout for that. If you go all the way to where the lake is its a .2 mile hike down you are able to go ahead and fish there. It's very relaxing although I think the campsites are fairly close to one another. Our neighbors one day had music blasting until 1am 😐 But I'm sure that's not always the case?? It is quite a drive to the nearest town so make sure you bring what you're going to need and then some. All in all a pretty place to camp.

No bait allowed, lures only, brown/rainbow trout, grayling. may need four wheel drive depending on the season
