Found it easy to follow and not over cluttered. Great history and layout of info. We were blessed to be able to go when they had a quilt show the end of Feb. 2020. Lots of beautiful quilts. They have a quilting room set up there where ladies work on quilts.

We were staying nearby and walked in to visit the museum. Very friendly welcome, lots of interesting stuff to look at and a big focus on local history. Some very lovely exhibits.

We needed a place to blow off a few hours waiting for an appointment before leaving town. Seeing this museum on TripAdvisor we knew we found what we needed.
Parking is on the side of the building near the Gilbert School District's main office. If you need a walker or wheelchair you've got to navigate a short walk and a few steps. They do have a wheelchair inside the museum.
Seniors pay $5 and "Young Whippersnappers" are a whopping $6.00. My wife falls into that category. A volunteer attendant will take your money and tell you about the place.
We wandered around aimlessly, looked at displays, chatted and had a good time just looking around. Several displays are "see/touch" such as the law enforcement area.
At this point there were lots of handmade quilts.
Don't ever say small towns lack charm. This is what being a town is all about.

Whenever I visit some city for the first time, I usually try to stop at its historical museum. It always says a lot about the city and its people.
Gilbert Historical Museum is located further South on Gilbert Rd, it has several exhibits outside, in the foyer (check out that car!), and of course many artifacts from those times when Gilbert used to be the "Hay Shipping Capital of the World" (that was actually 'only' a hundred years ago). Exhibits are totally amazing, and they are very-well presented - anything from old-time farming equipment and household pottery to the 'latest fashion' (of the 1920s) dresses and even a wedding dress!
The volunteer on duty (I think this lady's name is Susan Huff) was so hospitable and friendly and was happy to answer my questions and show me around, that I decided to make a modest donation to the museum, and also bought a T-shirt at their tiny souvenir shop.
The T-shirt is very particular: it has a huge drawing of the water tower , and underneath it just says 'Gilbert'. It doesn't specify what state it is. Just 'Gilbert'. Isn't that cool though?
Outside the museum I could see the historic original at a distance - that famous Town of Gilbert Water Tower in Gilbert, Arizona.

Every resident should probably visit this museum once. They could use the money I am certain. The building is the oldest in town. Lots of rooms and a variety/random historical facts and pictures and artifacts. In the basement is a train museum. The hours are very limited but that was also a one time must see.

After passing by this museum a few times while visiting here in AZ, we finally got a chance to go! Before you even walk in, there are historical vehicles to intrigue you! The woman at the desk was so welcoming and gave us a super overview. Each room of this once old schoolhouse deals with a different aspect of the history of Gilbert...wonderful artifacts and stories of locals will delight young and old and all in between. Military room traces the history and sacrifices made by the town through the many wars since its founding. Large yard of historical farm equipment in back outdoor area. Gallery exhibit in the final room was just beautiful. At 5 dollars for seniors and 6 dollars for adults this is a bargain for a wonderful few hours. They even have a tempting gift shop!

Brought friends that were visiting here. Very interesting history of this old school. Lots to see and read to get a feel of how it was long ago. It's quite large and lots of rooms to go thru.

there are different rooms with exhibits. I really enjoyed the history or Gilbert room entitled town. There is a room tha had the fire and police. a kitchen room and today they had a quit display. also we got to see some quilts that ladies are making, although they were not working today. there was also a needle craft display. an old covered wagon, fire truck and model t car. I did not climb the stair, but there was a room with trains.
