Theescombe is a local vineyard where you can do wine tasting and once a month there is a home cooked dinner. Always a nice place for us to go, on the edge of town, quiet and fuss free. And if you don't like wine, there's always the home brewed beer! The food is home cooked and always good, and so reasonably priced! The Chicken Burgers and chips are delicious, and the chocolate mousse was a nice end to the meal!

My mom and I visited last December. (If you'd remember us, Sandra, we were two Philippine women who came to PE because my dad was admitted in a nearby hospital due to a stroke.) From the Greenacres area, an Uber cost us 16 ZAR. The vineyard, the dining hall, the winery and the wines itself were amazing! We learned the history of the wine farm as well as some basic information about wine grapes, wine production, and wine-making equipment. We also had a walk along the vineyard itself along with two adorable Collies and a Shepherd dog, who were diligently asking to play.
The wines themselves were good! We had a taste of 8 different wines with some cheese, crackers, and the native pork delicacy called "biltong". We even took home a bottle of Wine Number 6, which is strong and fruity, like cinnamon, also somewhat woody.
It's an excellent way to spend an afternoon, over-all! Highly recommended!

We were 5 Welsh Rugby supporters who booked a tour of the estate. We were greeted on arrival by Sandra, the friendly, warm owner. Sandra clearly has a passion for the wine she produces and enthusiasm and devotion to it. She walked us around the different grapes being grown before spending the rest of the lovely afternoon sampling various wines.
The tasting consisted of seven wines: four whites, a rose and two reds and also various cheese and biscuits. During the tasting, Sandra did a great job getting the right balance between giving us information on the wine and some privacy of sampling the wine ourselves.

We had a great time at this family run wine estate. Sandra is the most passionate wine maker and hostess I ever come across! This made the experience that much better! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for something to do in Port Elizabeth!

Theescombe Estate is a small family-run wine farm 20mins from central Port Elizabeth.
We were greeted on arrival by Sandra, the friendly, warm, gregarious owner. She walked us around the different grapes being grown, alternating seamlessly between detailed accounts of how to grow wine and hilarious anecdotes from her experiences. Her passion for wine really shows and we learned far more than at the less personalised tours in the western cape.
After explaining the fermentation process, she taught us the correct way to taste wine in a non-pretentious way. The tasting consisted of seven wines: four whites, a rose and two reds. The pinotage in particular was delicious, particularly when combined with the cheese. During the tasting, Sandra did a great job getting the right balance between giving us information and letting us have some privacy.
Overall, I highly recommend doing a wine tour at Theescombe, particularly for couples in the afternoon.

What a wonderful wine tasting! The place is unpretentious and lovely, the wine is excellent, and we learn a lot about how to make it, all that in a friendly way! Sandra is a fantastic story teller and a lovely woman. She knows perfectly how to share her passion with people. This is how every wine farm should be. Merci beaucoup Sandra, on reviendra !

Aah, you felt it too. Lazy or not, it becomes relaxing and most enjoyable with no hurry to go home. That is exactly what our wine farm is about, come and relax, leave your worries at the gate and forget them when you leave. Thank you for the review. Kind regards Sandra

The name and boutique description of this place sounds rather exclusive. In reality, it is not. It is however clearly a passion for the owner and whatever her wines lack in sophistication, she certainly makes up for in enthusiasm and devotion to it. We spent a lovely afternoon sampling various wines and she was very tolerant of our two young boys running around. It was a good thing to do on a very rainy day in PE.

Thank you for your review. We are so proud of being the only Wine Farm in Port Elizabeth. My husband owns it - I run it. Our exclusivity is the way we do our tastings....never in a hurry, always by appointment and with as much energy, love and passion as one can share. Time to share our journey into this beautiful world of grape growing and winemaking takes place on our tour and on a rainy day we miss a small bit of that feel in the vineyard, but make it up with our enthusiasm in the cellar. My wines are handcrafted in the old fashion way and a minimum of harsh mechanical methods are used in all the processes With no mentor for either my husband growing the grapes or for me making the wine, my husband and I will always be proud of what we have achieved. Nobody believed we could do it - and we have - and continue to do so! Hope your lads will come back when they are old enough to drink wine and enjoy a glass or two with us. Kind regards Sandra
