I went on a solo hike. The landscape is great. Many opportunities for great photos. There's not much shade though so go early if in the summer. I didn't see animals most likely they were napping. The trails were clear but not marked enough. I used the AllTrails app to guide me. There's a stream at the beginning of the trail and you can spot dassies aka rock hyrax. They are so cute! More suitable for adult or solo hikers. The Moreleta Nature Reserve is a more fun trail for young children. Overall I love this place!

Simply a gem nestled in middle of JHB! Some challenging hike options or more leisurely stroll for first timers with studding views. Open all year, everyday and got to see wildlife (zebra, wildebeest to name a few).

Good hikes. Great for a picnic. Nice coffee shop. Security is at the gate. Free entry.

I am constantly discriminated against at the park because I am a traditional healer. I am told how to dress. The tell me to take off my cloth it is not allowed at the park yet Muslims are allowed to enter in their religious attire. If they could they would ban traditional healers all together. We are people just like everyone.

What a pleasure to hike here. Municipal Nature Reserve - free entry. Easy green route and return with easy blue route - ony challenge is to cross the rIver at silent pools! Nice light lunch at cafeteria afterwards.

We a group of 10 people visited the Klipriversberg on this Sunday. We arrived at 7.30 in the morning . It was already busy at that time. First we went to the Frandaph road gate. That is closed and NOT IN OPERATION NOW. We need to go to the Kibler Park entrance . There is enough parking, security guards. All professionally managed. Entrance is free. They will give us the hiking maps as well. There are many hiking trials to choose from . We selected the 4 KMs one and ended up walking 12 km. Each trial got its own length and that is what the map tell you. To get to that specific trials, we need to cross many other trials and the total distance can be much higher than what you expect. Use the map and read it carefully to avoid this issue. The trials are marked professionally , neat and clean. There is a small river through the park. We saw Zebra and Impala .Walking beside the big pipe bridge gives you nice views. Overall a very good experience. Nothing to complaint. The friendliness of the staff may fetch your attention. Enjoy this great treasure we got in the middle of the town.

Great Hiking spot,and pleasantly safe for a free entrance place.
Beautiful views and spotted Zebra, Wildebeest and Dassies.
Interlinking trails so you can make out your total distance, we did 13km
Good presence of Security guards with dogs.
However there is no tap and proper toilet facility, just a long drop. Small park area we had to do our braai outside the gate by the parking area. You cant do much apart from the Hike.

Am Parkeingang bekommt man kostenlos eine Karte, die die unterschiedlichen Wege im Park zeigt. Ich bin den Dassie-Weg gegangen...und ich habe tatsächlich Dassies gesehen, aber natürlich auch viele ander tolle Vögel.

Nice and close. Trails for all fitness levels and different lengths. A nice "in town" experience. A little wild life and take a carrot or2 to feed the boisterous horses but beware!

I went for a 10km hike yesterday. The reserve consists of a network of interlinked trails of varying difficulty. You can connect them to create your own customized trail. This is what I did. I felt safe. There is visible security patrols in the reserve. I saw zebra, wildebeest and springbok. I will be back soon to create a 15km Trail. At the beacon, the Johannesburg city landmark buildings are clearly visible.

Does anyone know WHY the Silent Pool gate in Mondeor remains closed and when it is likely to reopen? There are a few small disadvantages to using the Kibler Park entrance every time.

I'm arriving Oliver Tambo airport at 720am on Wednesday 13 June and have a connecting flight at 1345 the same day. ie 6 hours 20min. Is this enough time for me to get into a taxi and go to KNR and do two hours of birding and make it back to OT airport to catch my flight? I won't have bags as all checked through. Grateful for advice! THanks

It will be cutting it very fine. The reserve in totality can take several hours to explore. I would not recommend it based on your time lines.

Hi, no dogs are allowed, depending on your route you will see wildlife, hence the no dog policy

I do not think so, it's a nature reserve and having fires is not ideal. I would call the parks board to confirm and be sure.
