Indeed 27 boxes, some of them like containers, are stacked like Lego blocks forming a shopping center with restaurants and bars. An interesting low-cost architectural design.
There are different special shops selling clothes, but also books. I liked the fact all establishments are managed with care, an increasingly rare quality in South Africa nowadays. Moreover, the neighborhood is relatively safe.
There is a parking lot and also a playground for children.

We enjoyed about an hour on a Saturday afternoon. There are plenty of stores to browse, including music store, clothing boutiques, souvenir store and food vendors (stalls and restaurants).

The area has a lovely play area for children. Multiple places to eat. Interesting shops with South African stuff. The area around 27 boxes is also very interesting and seems it would fun and exciting in the evening and night. Much better than a mall.

Business hours on the web say it opens at 10. I was there at 10:30 and half the stores still hadn’t opened yet. There’s not that many retailers there to be honest, lots of empty store spaces. Is a very cool space and has a lot of potential, but at present I didn’t think it was anything special

Relativ neues Zentrum in Melville mit 27 Schiffscontainern als Shops. Sind teilweise noch oder schon wieder leer. Zentrum ist für Kinder ideal, interessanter Spielplatz und Möglichkeit, eigene Geburtstagsfeiern hier zu haben.

A nice collection of shops and restaurants, just by the Main Street of Melville. Local art, books, jewelry in smaller shops.

Visiting 27 Boxes was interesting with an original. Concept and plenty for everyone to see and do and shop.
We went to the Soul Cafe and relaxed for a bit with a cold nice chocolate milkshake after shopping and sightseeing.
There are free clean restrooms here and a garden plant area to sit, boutiques and art galleries, an ATM, handicrafts, and good little cafes in the area with shade from the hot sun beating down.
I'd definitely recommend you give this place a try.

27 Boxes is intended to provide opportunities for small and artesianal - style business. This means that, over time, some will go, and new ones will open.
We had not been for some time, and as we entered, all we could smell was the wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread. The little bakery with its freshly baked goods a welcome new addition.
Some very nice restaurants and food -truck type food stalls means that there are some nice choices.
Some really nice shops, from jewelry to clothing and everything in between. Fantastic new record store.
The outside kids area has been upgraded and, with the food stalls makes it a perfect venue for families.

If you're looking a cool space to have a drink, shop, and have an impromptu photoshoot, this is a nice place to it. The fact they re-purposed shipping containers makes it even more appealing. There you can find some interesting shopping and even a second hand store.
