Ensure you have STAFF to do a guided tour. Got turned away because no staff to do the tour. Went all the way to experience this tour, very dissapointed and this soured my whole Pilgrims Rest experience.

Vale a pena conhecer toda a cidade Pilgrim, também. A parte Alta e a parte Baixa. O museu é uma volta no tempo, mas não se surpreenda!

Brisn and I visited Alanglade House on the 16th November...our guide was Sharon...it was amazing ...how I wished I could have gone back in time to see how it was ...I found it most fascinating..and really advise a visit ...

We spent a Saturday afternoon on a tour to Alanglade House. It was informative and our tour guide John was fantastic. The museum house is well set up to show case life in the earlier years. I don't know if the whole family would be interested but a must see for the ladies.

I recently visited Pilgrim's Rest with my family and was thoroughly disappointed. The lack of enthusiasm and terrible customer service of the museum staff was particularly poor and together with some of the sites needing attention, created a bad experience. As a local South African it is saddening to see this iconic institution deteriorate to this standard and I can only imagine what the international tourists must think.
On a positive note, the only shining beacon of customer service is the retail establishment: "Pancakes at the stables". Fabulous food and service.
Come on SA Tourism, we can do better!

This old mine manager's house dating from 1915 is a real hidden gem. I've been to Pilgrimsrest three times before and never knew about this house museum. It is located about a kilometre outside the town and you can book for the guided tour at the Information centre in town, at R30 per person. The tour guide is very knowledgeable about the history of the house and the original family who the house was built for. The house and it's content has been beautifully preserved including some personal items. This is truly worth a visit.

I loved my visit to this house as it is something like I have never seen before. I went on a Ghosties tour and loved the stories behind every room and the previous occupants. PS - no ghost sightings for me.

Pilgrim’s rest is er voor de tourist en locale economie. Leuk om te zien.
Het Alanade house is wel een must als je in het dorp bent. Het ligt 5 min rijden buiten het dorp en is te bereiken via een smal weggetje.
Vergeet niet om entree kaartjes te kopen bij het info center in het dorp.
Het huis zelf is goed bewaard gebleven en geeft een goede indruk hoe de mijnbaas in de jaren 30 hier als een koning leefde. Zeker de moeite waard

Si le village de Pilgrim's Rest est charmant avec ses maisons en tôle ondulée, la maison des anciens directeurs des mines d'or du coin est époustouflante quand on imagine sa construction dans un endroit perdu, sauvage et dans des conditions difficiles.
Aussi l'endroit vaut-il le détour car la maison est moderne et luxueuse dans le contexte.
Pour la visiter, il faut réserver une visite guidée (environ 20 rands par personne) et vous rendre uniquement sur rendez-vous à quelques minutes de voiture au nord de Pilgrim's Rest.
Le site vaut la visite enfin pour l'idée que vous aurez d'une vie de notable au début du XXe siècle : salle d'étude pour les enfants, fumoir pour les messieurs, salon des dames, office, etc. Quelques curiosités dont un frigo monumental...
