Housed inside a beautiful old building full of history, the extent of this museums exhibits is a fascinating surprise.
Whilst the building is in need of a little TLC, it doesn't take away from all the interesting displays and knowledge to be found down the various passages and rooms.
Upstairs is a section on the Kimberley Regiment and the World Wars. Downstairs is a Natural History display, as well as a Timeline through the ages... Along with detailed models and informative visual displays.
This is definitely a museum worth visiting and supporting if you are in Kimberley!

I've never been to such a good museum in my life. The museum was full of info and had many different sections. The receptionist was very helpful when you needed help and it was extremely cheap.

Very impressed! Lots of info on the history of the country and Kimberly! Only fault is the screeching bird noises on the animals section!

For a small town, this really is a museum that packs in quite a bit. If one is visiting for the first time, I really don't think one will be disappointed in any way. We enjoyed the history section with our kids. The natural science section wasn't great, but go for the history and you'll really enjoy it. Even our kids of 11 and 13 enjoyed the interesting displays and the wealth of information.

As a Kimberley resident for 32 years, a lover of history and someone who has dragged tens of scores of visitors, both local and international, through the historic sites of Kimberley repeatedly, I was hard-pressed not to cry when visiting the museum again today. We plan to leave and my adult children wanted to say goodbye to the landmarks of their youth. The museum itself is dilapidated, the wooden balcony held together with danger tape, the hall of “firsts” in South Africa- Kimberley’s claim to fame- first streetlights, first nursing school, first aviation school, first female pilot, first stock exchange, etc, all gone. Why on earth remove that? The young (friendly) staff on duty had not the faintest idea what I was referring to. Extensive war exhibition which has little bearing on the city itself. For the rest: too much information which has to be read, nobody visiting a museum has time for that. Animal exhibits either empty or existing of age old not well preserved exhibits, fur coming off. Nothing interactive for children. A sad experience echoeing the distressed state of a once glorious city.

The building itself is magnificent. Wonderfully semi restored old Heath hydro for the well healed of the day. A good attempt has been made to capture moments of importance relating to the siege of Kimberly and then subsequent wars. These displays need a little more work to be perfect.

I went to this museum a bit skeptic as the website was terrible. However I was very surprised! The house of the museum itself is really interesting and all the things exposed provide great and interesting information. There is a wildlife section/natural museum side and then a lot of history starting from the bushmen to the second world war.
I highly recommend it!

Some excellent displays in this quiet little museum and very well laid out. It covers the wildlife, and early man right up to modern day wars. Not expensive to visit and somewhere to pass a good few hours just soaking up the history of Kimberley. Recommend a visit in your in the area.

Beautiful house, just expected more. You can see they have a tight budget but there is much more rhat can be done to this museum, everything is there, more focus on the inside will go a long way.

This museum leads one through the history of Kimberley and natural elements in a systematic and interesting way. Sadly, though we could find no cafe there.

Good day, I have booked a lodge to stay for a week with my fiancé on the first week of December the McGregor museum and the Big hole is our list attractions to see as it's my very first time.. I wanted to know the entrance fees and operating hours . Your response would be highly highly appreciated... Soooo excited, I can't wait
