Uniquely American sports experience. Very much a family day out in the sunshine. No sign of any fan aggression at the game we went to. Very low key atmosphere because it is a pretty-season training league, but we still saw great players knocking the ball out of the ground, and some amazing catches and fielding. Be warned tickets are cheap but food and drink is not. $12 for a can of beer $13 for a hot dog!

The Cactus League is the West Coast Spring Training Camp for MLB. Within in 30 minutes you have access to approximately 15 teams. The ballparks are family friendly and gives you a chance to buy great seats at affordable prices. Ballpark food and team gear is sold onsite.
What you should know.
1. It's hot, wear sunscreen and a hat
2. You will unlikely see all the stars as teams have split teams and players tend to play only a few innings.
3. Plan on walking ...
I've been told that if you visit the stadium facilities on practice days you will see inner team play and have access to watching your team working out or batting practice for free. We missed this part.

The Cactus League in Phoenix is a baseball fans dream come true, you can go to many different baseball field or teams and watch games in the afternoon or evening. If you are a sport fan you can also see the Suns or Coyotes games in the Phoenix area. Lots of fun going to baseball games and tickets prices are reasonable. Will be going again in the near future.

This was our first time attending spring training and we had a blast. This trip we were able to check out Sloan Park, Camelback Ranch, and Hohokam Stadium. We really enjoyed the atmosphere of the spring training games. They are low-key and relaxed. We found it very easy to get around the Phoenix area and found plenty of activities to fill our time when not at the ballparks.

We were thrilled to visit the Phoenix area for a March week during spring training this year. With 10 ball parks housing 14 MLB teams (including our fav, Texas Rangers), it was funl to see other tourist/fans supporting their teams in their caps and shirts. The city recognizes this influx of visitors, too, from signs at the airport to resource materials available at local hotels. If you are a die-hard sports enthusiast, you could easily make all 10 ball parks in just a few days with a little planning. There's nothing like the opportunity to see your sports heroes in a much more "up close and person" way than to head to the Arizona Cactus League!

We too in a game at Maryvale Stadium to watch Brewers play the Rookies ! Love the stadium not a bad seat in the house - tickets are some of the lowest in the area ! Great food choices as well - plan on going back !

Royals baseball in Surprise, AZ. Up to date ballpark with great facilities & seating, up close at reasonable prices, $25 a seat, 10 rows off the field, just into the outfield grass. Free close parking, with friendly & helpful volunteers to make sure your visit was enjoyable. The only downer was the price of concessions, no different than at the big parks. Was a wonderful night and good baseball, we would do it again on our next spring visit to the Phoenix area.

Great fun to see the players up and close. No bad seats in the house. Beautiful ball parks. For a few dollars what better way to spend a sunny afternoon. Easy to drive to, free parking.

I brought my teen and young adult family here as part of our desert Spring break experience to see a Spring training game as San Francisco Giants fans. Our experience was great. Sat on the lawn with a blanket spread and had a great view and a warm desert evening. The crowd were mostly other families doing the same--mostly sporting Dodgers attire--which makes sense given short drive from LA, but also not far for an SF Giants fan.

Very nice ballpark design with the spring weather and sunlight in mind for players and fans alike. Facilities are readily accessible and uncrowded.

Do you need tickets in advance or can you buy them at the stadium the day you go? We will be in the area in March '17 and would like to watch a couple games.. Any recommendation on information would be greatly appreciated!

There are some teams like the SF Giants home games where you'll need to buy in advance. Believe it or not, it seems like no matter how badly their season goes, the games sell out!

Planning Spring Training trip to go watch the A's play. Idea's where we can stay centrally? Games we'll be seeing are in Mesa, Goodyear, and Surprise.
Thanks!

Scottsdale would be a good place to stay as it is mid point from the Cactus League stadiums. Hohokam (A's), Sloan Field (Cubs), Tempe Diablo (Angels), and Salt River Field (D'backs and Rockies) are less than 15-30 minutes and the west valley stadiums are easily reached at 30-45 minutes.
