It's come long way since a bucket of sand.
Equipment from the earliest man powered buckets and pumps to the latest stuff. Gear from leather to Nomex.
This is something everybody should see.
The 9-11 stuff. Not much to say really, I have only words...

Very impressive collection of fire apparatus, photographs, badges, etc. Great volunteers like George and Bob that answered our questions.

Super place! Easy to find. Huge place and they are very friendly. Spent about 2 hours just walking through all the different exhibits and reading all the info. It was very informative and interesting. While I was there, there was a group of kids that came in and were getting fire safety talk and walk through. Docents were super friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anyone that’s even slightly interested in history of firefighting.

Excellent arrangement of firefighting equipment,starting with a London piece from early 1700s, progressing thru hand pumps, ladders and buckets, to hoses and so on. Human and horse drawn equipment to engine powered huge machines! Very interesting information along the way Firefighters are very competitive. So interesting to learn the stories! Kids area to try on coats, hats etc and sit in the fire truck! Great way to spend a couple hours!

A wonderful addition to our trip! My 5 year old loves fire trucks. We spent about 2 hours here. They have two great interactive areas including a fire truck and turnout gear for dress up play in one area and a safety house and play space in another area. My kids could have stayed and played much longer than we allowed them. We enjoyed seeing all the fire trucks and playing in the play areas. Would definitely recommend if you have a kid who loves fire trucks! Even my child that doesn't love fire trucks had a good time playing. Well spent time and money.

I'll score this one a 5 as I think they accomplished what they set out to do - present exhibits about the history / evolution of firefighting. Your experience here will likely vary depending on how much you are interested in firefighting - if you've had experience doing it, if you have family members who are / were involved with it, etc. None of those apply to me, but I still found the museum a worthwhile stop and am glad we went.
They have a small dedicated parking lot. You enter via the gift shop and tickets are $15 for adults. They had around 3 older guys who could easily have been former firefighters to answer any questions. They all seemed friendly. One gave us a brief overview of the museum's layout. He noted that some of their docents had already finished for the day (we visited around 3 p.m. on a Friday).
The museum is housed in a large warehouse-type building, but is sub-divided into smaller areas. The 2 - 3 largest of these focus on their array of fire engines, from the first horse or human drawn models from the 1700s through fairly modern ones. They have a LOT of fire engines. A nice touch was that the chains that surround the exhibits to keep you from touching or climbing onto the engines were supported by decorated fire hydrants. There is one engine set up so that you can climb around on it and sit in the drivers' seat. It seemed popular with kids.
Aside from the engines, they also have exhibits on fire helmets from many different countries, tools used by firefighters, a room devoted to how wildfires are fought, plus a modern room with the control center from the Phoenix Fire Department circa 1955 - 85 (think a scaled down NORAD). There are a lot of other mini-exhibits too.
They also have a 'hall of heroes' listing firefighters who have lost their lives on duty.
Lastly, they have an area for young-ish children to play. It has several rooms and appeared to focus on safety in general, while letting the kids climb on things and generally have fun.
The photo I'll add here was of some sort of 'marketing' fire engine/pump. I'd never seen this type of thing before. I guess it was sort of akin to the Budweiser beer wagon with the Clydesdales, but for marketing fire pumps? I just found the sort of delicate ornamentation bizarre - to me this looks like Cinderella should emerge with an axe and a hose...
In summary, this museum may not be 'for everyone', but if you have a broad interest in history or a specific interest in firefighting, I think you'd enjoy it.

On a hot day in Phoenix, come inside and cool off at this amazing and lovingly curated museum. Trucks and gear go back to the 1700s, and the retired firefighter docents can tell you all you want to know about them all. Why Dalmatians? Why the color red for trucks? Why bagpipes at funerals? They can tell you! Nice memorials to both 9-11 and the Granite Mountain hotshots plus patches for crews around the world. A fir truck to climb into for the kids. Plan at least a few hours.

We were warmly welcomed. They explained the contents of each room. We enjoyed viewing the video of how Pierce fire engines are built. My husband suited up for a photo on a fire truck. We enjoyed finding the patch for the fire Department in our town. It was very moving to see the wall of firefighters who died during their duty.

We stopped in here because my wife wanted to see a donated fire engine that she used to ride on as a kid in Jamestown, ND. We paid to get in (check groupon for deals) and then learned that the engine was not on display in the main museum but was in storage. One of the docents (who I would guess was a retired firefighter) volunteered to take us all to the storage garage and show us. My wife was very happy as was my father in law seeing the photos, who rode the truck as a volunteer firefighter back in the day. We then toured the main museum and the kids had a great time with the interactive engine and wearing gear. The displays are wonderful, spanning from the first hand pump carts all the way up to a modern, restored 9-11 NYFD engine. A great place to stop by on any weather day as it is all inside and air conditioned.

Very cool place to visit. I don't think you have to be a firefighter to enjoy this place. They have so much stuff to look at and they have a special area for kids. They also have a 911 tribute. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Phoenix Tempe area.

The group I went with were 8 year old boys. They had activities that were age group we brought. There are "firetrucks" through the ages but mostly for looking not touching. I hope this helps.

I don't remember, But if you are coming from New York to be here. I am sure it isn't more than the trip and it appears that others have answered the question. Although I will say that the Hall of Flame is a great place to visit, there are other reasons to be here depending on the time of year as we have Spring Baseball, mountains to climb, the largest City Park in the country. Golf courses, one for each of us it seems are a big reason, antique auto auctions (because they don't rust here) Air Museums, for the same reason. Then open it up for the state an we have one of the worlds most revered landmarks where you can practice any language you want. This state is busting open with things to see and do. We have been taking 5 day trips to various places around the state so we can go to the reservations and see Monument Valley, etc. Our Arizona Highways Magazine isn't the masterpiece that it is because we have great Photographers, but because the great photographers are drawn here because it is the most masterfully beautiful place in this world. Sorry for running on like that, but I feel it deeply. Also if you are into gardening there are certain restrictions due to climate, but you can grow and harvest every month of the year. You can't do that anyplace else., but if you are coming here either stay a while to see it all or get a jet pack for the back end of your car.
