No food available at the trail heads themselves. They do have water refill stations at the trail heads but nothing as you're hiking. Take your own snacks - be sure to pack out what you pack in! :-)

The trails are open sunrise to sunset, so it changes with the seasons.

Everyone is right about the longer hikes. But there are short trails as well. You can do a 45 minute hike on these trails. Something for everyone.

The preserve is walking or hiking trails only. There is a large parking lot, interpretive center with washrooms. Trails are listed as easy to moderate. The one I walked part way on - not far about 1/2 mile was wide hard finer gravel and well packed. It could be suitable for a wheelchair, walker if someone wanted to experience some desert, see a "wash" and a great view of Scottsdale.

No problems with bugs what so ever. Enjoy !!

No bikes for rent in the park. if renting one elsewhere, you should be an experienced trail rider. These trails are rocky and rough and steep in a few places.

One of the other posts includes a suggestion to "plan and prepare for your hike." So, hikes can be done year-round, but plan the trail, time of day and exertion level for the optimum. Most of the desert plants bloom between February and May. Early morning is coolest, and there are hikes that have more shade in certain times of the day. As a starter try the Gateway loop early in the morning going clockwise (Uphill in shade to saddle then mostly downhill back in sun). Wear good shoes with a shank support, bring plenty of water, and poles if you want a little help in gravel or downhills.

Yes, we saw dogs on several trails.

Multiple trails varying in distance ( .5 mile - 11 miles - the majority of them are in the 4 mile range) and level of difficulty . . . Our 8 year old easily handled one of the shorter trails. If contemplating one of the longer trails, I would encourage starting early in the morning.
