Terrible way of managing reservations during coronavirus pandemic. They will not give us the option to reschedule until they cancel the later reservation dates. This means that those that reserved in the later months will get the last pick of reservation dates. They only send a cancellation notice 2 weeks out, making it difficult for people to plan around that. Just everyone the option to reserve for next year so that the enrollment is fair.

I got a reservation that had to be rescheduled with the coronavirus pandemic. At first I thought my reservation for the next year's date had been taken, but by email they gracefully helped me get my dates back! I thought I'd never get a response. Will be my 3rd time there. Place is second to none in unique beauty. Highly recommend, but don't share with anyone because I don't want this sacred place over run with slimy tourists that don't respect the land!

Over Thanksgiving 2019 we had reservations to hike down to Havasupai. There was a huge storm and the entire campground was floaded and evacuated. Roads were closed, the village lost power, and we were told the campround was closed.
For months I have been emailing/calling the tribe trying to find a resolution for the thousands of dollars we lost. Constantly being told they are waiting on the tribe to make a decision for the 400 people who weren't able to hike down. Every response I received was a different answers. We were never offered a refund or to reschedule, only told we could try to rebook and pay full price.
Today, I was told the storm never happened, the floading never happened, the campgrounds never closed, and it was all untrue. I am posting this not to vent or complain about the circumstances, but more hoping to raise awareness.
I am beyond devastated and disappointed in the way my group has been treated. We were planning this trip for over a year, we bought cold weather gear and rain gear preparing for the worst, we spend thousands of dollars on food, gear, gas, hotel cost, and water, not to mention we were stuck in Peach Springs, AZ for 3 days hoping we could hike down. I have wanted to visit Havasupai since I moved to Arizona, and I have always been an advocate for the tribe. To be treated this way is unacceptable.

Followed all the website instructions - made an account well in advance, signed in via google chrome 20 minutes before the opening time, selected my dates, had them in my “cart,” clicked the purchase button and got the loading icon/spinny wheel of death. And then was told my hold had timed out and to start over. This happened twice. On my 3rd attempt, my dates were “no longer available.” Also happened last year.
Then I tried signing in again and tabbing through the calendar to pick a different date later in the year - again, spinny wheel of death took over while trying to load September availability, and got kicked out of the system.

So many negative reviews, I was a little apprehensive. I found the exact opposite to be true. The reservation was so clean, we were welcomed by anyone that we encountered. The fry bread of course it was great after an 8 mile hike in.
Yes of booking was excellent on the new website, I was able to get cancellations tickets for one week prior. Excellent Weekend, will go back it was a bit chilly in the falls. Remember it is in a canyon so the sun goes down quite early 2-3ish behind the canyon.
No pictures allowed in the village

To plan this hike you need a year and a half.... On the tribe's site, you will find why. You will discover this amazing place step by step, hiking down. It's a truly amazing place where to experience solitude or happiness, or both. Everything is beautiful and the people I've met are wonderful.
Enjoy those three days as you are in paradise.

O lugar é maravilhoso e a experiência única.

The experience was ruined by witnessing the abuse of the horses and mules. We observed these animals to be underweight and deprived of food and water. We could see all their ribs, they were run up and down the canyon with no water. They are tied so close together (mouth to tail) that the entire train of animals is often pulled by their bridles along the trail. The front or rear horse is kicked and beaten to make the rest run, even along dangerous twists and turns. I cannot even imagine the pressure of a bridle in a horse's mouth, forced up into the hard palate for MILES at a time! The animals have a look of exhaustion and desperation. We witnessed one being kicked so hard she vomited. They are tied up so close to posts that they are unable to turn around, lie down, and with NO shade, even in the sweltering heat. There are signs everywhere saying NO PHOTOS OF THE ANIMALS. This is why. Please do not support the tribe until they treat their enslaved animals with dignity and compassion.

hello, happy new year 2019, i will be in april in arizona. I also like to visit the havasupai waterfalls, if I understand right, actually all sleeping places in the lodge are fully booked, right? Is it possible to fly with helicopters, where do they start? In this case a one day trip flight to/back is possible? Thanks for supporting, best greetings from germany.

I'm afraid that days trips are prohibited. In order to even enter Havasupai territory, an overnight reservation (which includes the required permit) is needed -- and a stay of two nights is really a practical minimum. As you stated, the Lodge is completely booked for all of 2019. Reservations for the campground for 2019 open up on 1 February 2019, at 8 am Arizona time. They sell out almost instantly. If you are interested in the campground, go to tripadvisor's "Supai, Arizona" forum for details.
If you manage to get a reservation, helicopter flights are sometimes available from the trailhead (Havasupai Hilltop). They don't fly every day, and there are other qualifications. In addition, the process of getting a ride is changing this year. As above, tripadvisor's Supai forum is the best place to discuss this.

Is there a hoseback or mule option to get into the falls area. We are time limited.

I assume you already have the required reservation/permit, which must be obtained in advance. Everything is sold out for 2018. When you say you are time limited, do you mean you only have a one night reservation? Day hikes are prohibited.
A riding horse is $250 one way. If you have anything more than a 10 pound day pack, you'll also have to rent a pack mule ($132 one way, but it can carry bags for more than one person).
With limited time, the quickest way to get to Supai is to hike. Drive to the trailhead the evening before, and start hiking at or before dawn. Horses don't begin the trip until hours later, and will arrive at Supai later than early hikers. There's also a helicopter, but it only operates four days a week, doesn't take reservations, may have a huge line, and doesn't start until later in the morning.

Is this a safe hike to do with no tour guide- 2 ladies? If we are lucky enough to get a room at the lodge, do you still pack all your food and cooking utensils and water/bedding?

A tour guide is not needed. This is a safe hike with respect to dangers from humans and animals. Since 1965, there have been no recorded tourist deaths from animal attacks, and only one murder in that 50 year period. There are occasional deaths, mostly from foolish choices (e.g., cliff diving, hiking during a flash flood, swimming under a waterfall, possibly a couple of heat-related deaths), but overall it's pretty safe. If you're experienced hikers, it should be no problem. The Lodge is like any modest motel, so you don't need to bring bedding or towels. There's a small store in town, as well as a cafe, so you only need to bring enough food and water for the hike (plus perhaps a small emergency stash). Note that The Lodge is sold out for pretty much all of 2018 - unlike the campground, reservations open up in June for all of the following year. There's a lot more information at the official Havasupai website, or you can ask more questions at the tripadvisor forum for Supai, Arizona.

where can I go to get the permit/pass to go and what is the process?
Do I have to go with a tour or no?

You do not have to go with a tour or guide. But you do have to have a reservation at the campground or the lodge. Your reservation process will include all permits. The only way to reserve a camp spot or a room at the lodge is by contacting them by phone. There are no reservations on the web. Contact phone numbers are on their website. It can be difficult to reach them - the phone often rings with no answer. I tried for 6 months before I reached them. If you prefer to go with a guide a know a reputable company Wildland Trekking has trips.
I saw this place just browsing online and would love to plan a trip soon. How is the weather like if we go middle of Jan and the cost to stay a night to see the waterfalls? Never done this sight seeing before so I’m new . And is it nice enough you can get in the water. Thank you

Water stays about 70 degrees all year long - which is not that warm. Feels great when it is 100 degrees out but not when it is 70 degrees out. Winter months are chilly but very manageable if you plan for it (much better than scorching 110 degree summer heat if you ask me). Lodge is about $140 per night with some associated entrance fees. You can likely use weather website to see average monthly temps. Search both for Peach Springs temps and Supai (Supai Village) temps. The website they have is pretty good but not an abundance of info. It can be very difficult to get connected via phone - I called for 6 months before I got through (no reservations made via web - phone only). I recommend reading Exploring Havasupai by Greg Witt. And it is worth noting - this is not Grand Canyon proper, Havasupai is 190 miles away from Grand Canyon South Rim entrance.

A group of friends and I are hoping to travel to Grand Canyon the week of Thanksgiving. We would like to experience the most of Grand Canyon.
First of all, I would like to know if that is a good time of the year to experience the Falls? And how do you make the reservation for the campground?
We also what to know if there's a place near by to go on a Hot ride air balloon?

We are considering bringing our 9 year old daughter in June. Physically, she can hike it no problem, but I'm afraid she'll lose motivation, especially on the way out. Is it possible for her to ride a mule/donkey during part of the hike? Do they pass by regularly along the trail? And, about how much do they cost to ride?
Another question -- I am allowed 12 permits (we are staying at the lodge, 3 rooms, 12 permits reserved). There are 12 in our group. If we bring my daughter, that would be 13. Do you think it would be a problem to squeeze her into the room and pay for the extra permit once we get there? If they have a problem with that, what would we do? Thanks!

I am planning to go to Havasu falls from 03/18-03/20, how far do I do I have to walk, or how do I get to, the falls? Are there hotels nearby?

Since you asked about hotels, it seems that you do not yet have the required reservation and permit, without which you are not allowed to even enter Havasupai territory. Permits are pretty much sold out until at least November. Day hikes are not allowed.
Visiting Supai requires planning far in advance. In order to get a room at the only lodge, you'll need to call twelve months or more in advance. The only other option -- a campground -- opens its reservation line on February 1 for the entire year; it is fiendishly difficult to get through before all dates are sold out. Without a reservation at either the lodge or the campground, you are not allowed to enter Havasupai territory.
