This is such a beautiful place hidden in the Grand Canyon. It is worth the climb down the ladders and chains along the canyon wall.

Well after the super awesome scary climb down the wet slippery rock face...WE got ENGAGED at the bottom!!! So it will always be a super memorable spot for me.
But the water is amazing, there is a kool swimming hole off to the right you can jump into. Little chilly in May, but who cares!!!!

This waterfall is simply awesome! It is the largest in Havasupai and the largest I have ever witnessed first hand.

Fabulous 5 mile hike to Beaver Falls. Turquoise colored water of river and pools is truly unique. We crossed the creek 3 times and I wish that I had water shoes. On the way you must go by Mooney Falls via caves, ladders and chain railing which will be a challenge for anyone fearful of heights

Yes, it's as great as the pictures. I've been 2x's & secured a permit for February 2020.
Most beautiful waterfalls in AZ. Must have fitness to get here, 10 miles from Hualapi Hilltop.
Can get a permit on Facebook Havasupai Site, or like everyone else 2-1 of every year, 8:00am AZ time go online.
Only way in, hiking, & you can backpack or get a pack mule.

The waterfalls and the hike is amazing. I really had a great time. However, seeing animals being abused is not worth it. For anyone going down there - you have to hike. It's an 11 mile hike to camp, then from camp it's a 5 mile each way hike to mooney fallss. If you can't do the 11 mile hike with your tent and provisions then sorry you can't go. Do not use pack mules or horses to carry your stuff down. Anyone who does this does not deserve to be there. The horses and mules are abused, have obvious rope burns and make the 22 round trip journey each day (multiple times maybe) because you're too lazy to carry your stuff. If you do this, you are the ones who are abusing the animals. I didn't see the worst of it but from what I saw, it was horrible. The animals are skinny, go without proper water and food all for your enjoyment. I didn't know this until I was already hiking in the canyon. And this behavior has been going on for years, it's absolutely horrible.

This is just another part of the paradise that is the Havasupai creek on the Havasupai tribal lands, fantastic place! To access this falls area you of course need to have a permit from the Havasupai tribe.

You have to be a little on the tough side to climb down to the falls. Steep climb down, 2 tunnels, then the chain climb and finally 2 latters before you reach paradise

Climbing down to the bottom of Mooney was a little scary once we hit the wet chains, but not as bad as some people make it sound, and it was totally worth it. There are beautiful spots just beyond, along the way to beaver falls. You go through a few caves/tunnels, then scale down the cliff face using chains and foothold in the rock, finally a wooden ladder at the bottom. You can see most of that in my photo here.
If we had to do it over I wouldn’t go all the way to beaver falls. There are so many equally gorgeous pools and little falls to enjoy along the way that no one else was swimming in.

Hello, I have been to Havasupai 2x's. But this time permit is February 2020, I'm going to hike from Mooney to Colorado River & back 1 of the 3 days down there. So what's the water temp that month?
Also the deepest parts is it any deeper than waist level?
Last question what is mileage 1 way to river from Mooney.
I'm on the waitlist for pack mule. And in case you ask yes I tried to get better months but let's say it was a challenge last Friday.
Appreciate your help.

First of all you can google that question and secondly stop using the mules to carry YOUR BACK PACK!!!CARRY YOUR OWN BACK PACK.
Is there anyway we can just go to hike to look at the waterfalls and not stay the night on the campground? And if we can how would this be possible?

In short, no. In order to even enter Havasupai territory, you must obtain a permit. The only way to obtain a permit is with an overnight reservation (at either the campground, or the Lodge at Supai). Reservations for 2018 are sold out. Lodge reservations for 2019 are virtually sold out. Campground reservations for 2019 have not yet opened up, but are fiendishly difficult to obtain.
Of course, once you obtain such a permit, no one will physically prevent you from leaving before nightfall. However, that makes little sense. To see the falls involves a ten mile hike (one way), then more hiking around the falls, then another ten mile hike back out. Few people can do this in one day; even fewer would enjoy it.
How long does it take to get a permit? And where can I get one?

The only way to get a permit is with an overnight reservation -- at either the campground, or The Lodge. Reservations/permits sell out long in advance. All reservations for 2018 sold out long ago. Demand is incredibly high, and reservations are difficult to obtain.
(1) Reservations for The Lodge are sold out for 2018, and virtually sold out for all of 2019. Reservations for 2020 will go on sale on June 1, 2019, and are available only via phone (unless things change).
(2) Campground reservations for 2019 have not yet opened up. In past years, they opened up on February 1, at 8 am Mountain Standard Time. Demand was so great that dates sold out before some people could even log onto the reservation website. The date may change this year. Go to the official Havasupai website, and there is a link to their reservation website. Go to the reservation website, and you can request to be notified once they decide on the reservations opening date.
A final option is to book a tour through a commercial operator. They get the reservation for you -- at a price. Tours typically cost $1,200 to $1,800 per person, for a two or three night stay at the campground. I know little about the individual operators.
Where would be ideal to lodge? Hotel?

The night before we hiked we stayed at a Courtyard Marriott in Kingman,AZ. We checked in at noon (they let us check in early). We slept till about midnight and ate one last full meal at Denny’s before we left and then drove down Route 66 to Indian hwy 18. It took us about 2 hours because the Hwy 18 had tons of wildlife to watch for in road. As soon as we got to park (don’t park near canyon wall-sometimes Rocks fall) we put on our headlamps and started hiking about 3:30am. It was nice and cool the entire hik and got to watch the morning sunrise throughout the canyon!

Are there other methods of travel to get to the falls? I am a cancer survivor and have had 3 hip surgeries and one back surgery. I use a walker to get around. I was used to traveling, camping and hiking but am no longer able to do those things to the extent I was acustomed to.

Sorry, but Mtangel6 provided a good analysis. The helicopter service only operates four days a week, does not accept reservations (with wait times that can run many hours), and may be cancelled without notice. It's then a two mile hike on rocky, sandy, uneven terrain to the first waterfall. The most famous waterfall (Havasu Falls) requires scrambling down a steep, rocky trail at the end. The tallest waterfall (Mooney Falls) requires navigation through a nearly vertical tunnel, and is challenging even for a person in perfect health.
There is also horseback rental, but I assume this would be extremely painful if not impossible. The only other option is hiking a steep, rocky trail.

A permit is absolutely required to enter Havasupai Territory. Without it, you won't be allowed to even begin your hike. Single day hikes are prohibited by the Havasupai; permits are available only as part of an overnight stay at either the campground or The Lodge. In any case, a single day round trip hike to Mooney Falls would be impossible for the large majority of hikers, and not much fun for the remaining few. I'm not sure if the campground or Lodge will be open in January; you'll have to call to find out. Permits/reservations are pretty much sold out for The Lodge for all of 2018, and for the campground through February 1, 2018 (when permits for the rest of the year open up). However, if either of those places are open, it's possible you'll find something in January, as it's one of the few unpopular months -- awfully cold for a water-based trip!
