Many people eat in one of the many restaurants around the plaza, or in Plaza Chinorros nearby, just behind the Post Office. Alternatively, one can meet friends in one of the bars, before going into the Plaza Constitucion to mingle with other residents or visitors gathering there before twelve o’clock approaches. The Plaza always looks impressive with its christmas themed decorations. The tradition is to go into the plaza armed with a glass of champagne and twelve grapes (preferably seedless). Then, when the church bell starts to chime the midnight hour, to pop a grape into your mouth as each of the twelve chimes occurs. Don’t forget to drink your champagne before and after the grape munching. You probably won’t have time when consuming the grapes. It is a great atmosphere with a great crowd of people. No festivals in June but plenty to do Beach stretches for miles with decent seafront restaurants , try the direction of Los Boliches ( face the sea and go left ) Fuengirola has many bars and restaurants, visit the square by the Church and the Plaza which is one block away . If it rains go shopping at Myrama mall , you can walk or take a short taxi ride alternatively take a taxi to Corte Inglais Mijas ( not the small one at Boliches). Train service is cheap from Fuengirola, go to Benalmadena walk down through the park and head for harbour area - ferry back to Fuengirola. If your not just beach people take bus to places such as Mijas and Marbella Tuesday is Market day in Fuengirola, it's a bit of a walk in the direction of Los Boliches

However, after leaving Hotel Angela turn right towards the Port, keep going along the Paseo Maritimo (sea front) until you get to the fabulous ice cream parlour "Verdu's". Turn right there and just walk another 100 metres into the Plaza and the White Church. There are several great cafe's there, our favourite is the "Costa del Sol" (try their Churros dipped in chocolate - fabulous!!) next door to the corner Farmacia on the left of the Church. The two main fiestas in Fuengirola are in early May and mid October. Each last a week and the hotels get fully booked with Spanish families and the atmosphere is amazing Every city in the country holds fiestas at different times of the year. You need to find a web site that lists them, good luck.
