Go in the wet seasons when you can go in a mokoro canoe down the canals the elephants create by walking through the tall grasses. Amazing place to be.

Camped here for a couple nights on a group tour. Activities included poler transport to and from the campsite, a couple walks around the delta, a poler cruise along the waterways at dusk, a swim in the waterways, and songs around the camp fire at night. A great experience, even including the time we nearly got charged by an elephant that was startled by our approach (but our poler handled it fine). One of the highlights of our Africa tour.

The Okavango originates in Angola, for a short stretch it marks the borders between Angola itself and Namibia, then flows into Botswana, within the Moremi.
It has a unique characteristic: it does not flow into any sea and does not flow into any river: it simply disperses in a large swamp called a delta.
We stayed inside the Moremi nature reserve for eight days, in two different tented camps, from which our safaris in search of animals started daily.
We were particularly lucky, having found lions, a large quantity of elephants, hippos, zebras and gazelles, the very rare leopards; many different varieties of birds.
The tented camps, rather than being tiring, allowed us to live in complete contact with nature, in an "out of this world" situation: electricity only that strictly necessary to light dinner, limited water for washing (no problem for that to be drinking), Spartan tents, no telephone contact or Internet (finally!!): an experience to be repeated and recommended.
Nature, during the period of our stay, was still asleep, waiting for the heavy rains that arrive between the end of November and the beginning of December.
In many trips we have taken, none have given us the emotions of the Okavango: spectacular!!!

Okavango delta is a very beautiful place I visited the area on a mokoro safari which was a great way to explore the area although it was a very hot day when I explored

We took off from Maun in a small plane for a sightseeing flight over the delta. We finally saw green Africa despite the rainy season and large herds of all kinds of animals. Fantastic.

Our first ever Safari Trip. Stayed 3 nights at Kwara Camp. Excellent facilities and welcoming staff. The game drives were superb and we saw incredible wildlife in the most beautiful and unspoilt landscape. Highly recommended

The 1000th World Heritage Site, the area covers more than two million hectares of wetlands and seasonally flooded grasslands. The Moremi Game Reserve is part of the delta. It is an excellent place to take a mokoro ride, the edges of the boats but inches above the waterline, skillfully guided by boatmen. The game viewing is very good.

The 9-day 8-night Okavango Expeditions camping Safari, Kasane to Maun, with 2 nights in 4 different campsites, starting in Chobe, was a marvellous experience. Tour guides/drivers Paul & Ossi had superb fauna/flora, knowledge, binocular-grade eyesight &, seemingly a 6th sense on where to find elusive animals. The food was amazing, especially considering the prep. conditions and the team setting up and taking down the en-suite (bush style!) tents, with beds, were streamlined and speedy - an all-round excellent experience. Sitting under the star-studded sky, with lions grunting not far off, plus other animal communications during the night, just added to the experience.

Wenn Afrika-Safari, dann nur Botswana. Ist zwar schweinemäßig teuer, aber das absolut Beste von allem. Da kommt Kenia nicht mit, auch nicht Südafrika und auch nicht Krüger Park. Hier sind die Tiere und hier ist das ursprüngliche Afrika

I have the chance to travel for safari in the Delta in either mid April or late August. Which would you recommend, and why?

We were told to avoid October/November and January/February.
We went in October and it was sweltering hot. But if you don’t mind the heat then it’s ok. You are lucky! It is no longer dry!! The drought is over!!

Depending on your budget there are many tour operators around however if you want a safari that is flawless with a variety of camps and lodges to choose from have a look at Wilderness Safaris on their website.

Hi! We are going to the Okavango in July and are trying to decide on a mokoro company, a plane/helicopter company etc. We are looking for a great experience, but also bang for our buck (not looking to take expensive tours with huge profit margins for rich companies). Any suggestions?

Hi, try Bushways or Safari Destinations. Not too sure about price range but they offer great holidays. We went camping with Bushways, no luxury but a fantastic experience.

Wir waren nur zwei Tage dort(leider) und haben in der Georges Lodge bei Victoria Falls gewohnt. Dort waren wir mit allem äußerst zufrieden. Sehr zu empfehlen!

When we were in Botswana we used our own car but requested the lodge for driver who took us on safari, he owns a safari company. We stayed at Jump Street Chalets in Maun I’m sure you can email them they can be able to assist you.
