We went by car to the middle of the way.. in a portal at the entrance of the lighthouse a boy no longer let us go by car.. we thought that from there there was no road so we parked and we followed on foot.. which was not our surprise to see several cars following the road... we went to the entrance of the restaurant, we took pictures and we went back.... I should have a better explanation of how it works... the look is quite interesting.

Very nice old but still in use lighthouse. The admission includes a drink and a small guided tour with beautiful details of the lighthouse.

Worst experience ever! We walked up the stairs to have a look before we decide to drink a coffee. The so called manager insisted that we drink coffee or do a paid for tour from the moment we put our feet in the restaurant. He told us that we need to pay because his staff needs to earn and that we should f*** off it is not a view point and a place to play for kids! He insisted that “this is his private place” - WHY the hell then open to the public. This is a disgusting way to treat potential customers and enforce a vibe of pay or leave! We left without having the coffee just because of how we were treated from the moment we arrived, we left so upset !!! We will never go there again.
The manager tried getting aggressive with my husband - we are truly so disgusted! Hope this place gets what it deserves! I will personally tell everyone we know in the area that they should NOT go there. FYI dear manager, my husband is from Mosselbay and it is very rude for you to tell us to go back to where we came from! You have a few things to learn about how to treat a customer!!

Our Lighthouse Experience is limited due to restricted parking and seating at this strategic location, which serves a vital role beyond just offering a tour or an amazing menu to choose from. Access control is crucial to safeguard the operations of what is likely the most strategic maritime traffic control point in the Southern Region, apart from the Suez Canal in the Northern Region. In addition, the safety of our patrons, especially children, is a top priority. The deck is situated several meters above the rocks, and placing children on the deck counter for a photo is strictly prohibited, which was not respected in this incident.
Bookings are essential to secure a visit, but for those arriving at the main gate, our clear notice board outlining the experience options is well respected by most visitors—though not in this case. When greeted by friendly staff and asked which option they would like to choose (visitors can either support the restaurant by purchasing food or drinks, or pay for the Lighthouse Experience, which includes a climb to the top, historical insights, and a complimentary drink), the family replied that they didn’t wish to participate in any of the offerings, as they were locals, and only wanted to "look around" and take photos, while other respectful patrons were enjoying their chosen experience.
When staff approached the husband with a menu, the situation escalated into verbal abuse, with the husband accusing staff of forcing them to make a purchase. He became aggressive, used vulgar language, and made threats. This behavior was not tolerated by the manager, who asked them to leave. The Right of Admission signage on the deck area was pointed out to the husband for his attention.
We have CCTV footage of the incident, which provides an accurate account of the events that took place. Although no formal charges of trespassing, verbal abuse, or threats have been filed with local authorities, we reserve the right to do so with the necessary evidence. The rental car registration, LB 250 K GP, was recorded by our capable Lighthouse Security Team after a serious threat was made by the husband before they drove off.
Access to the Lighthouse has never been open to the public in this way before we began managing it, and those who respect and appreciate this unique offering are reflected in the thousands of positive reviews we have received over the past three years. We deeply value and protect the experience for paying patrons.
Our wish is not for TripAdvisor to remove this review, as its content could serve to enlighten others with similar intentions, encouraging them to reflect before visiting us for an experience we do not offer. However, we do hope that TripAdvisor will not take the rating into account, as it is based on false statements made by this particular family. We welcome everyone to the Lighthouse for a memorable visit—one we hope our visitors will cherish, rather than an experience we'd prefer to forget.

The climb up the sixty steps to the top of the light house is worth the spectacular view. I conquered my fear of heights, definitely worth it.

If you are adventurous and not afraid of heights, this is for you! Climb up the 60 wooden steps to the top of the lighthouse, where you can crawl through the doorway to the outside and stand beside the giant bulb and take breathtaking photos of The Point, Mossel Bay! The ocean and the mountains...a view so beautiful I never could have imagined! There is a small restaurant at the bottom of the lighthouse for those that don't want to climb to the top. It has inside and outside tables with fantastic views. The owners are friendly and happy to chat about the lighthouse - it was very intersting and an absolute highlight of my trip!

This was an amazing experience in Mossel Bay and I would highly recommend it. Put aside at least 1 hour to enjoy the full experience the Lighthouse has to offer. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast overlooking the ocean. We also enjoyed a Lighthouse tour. Parking is limited but the people at the gate guided us. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Bucket list item 👌

Extremely rude! Went there to check the place out in the morning to go for a evening dinner, rude hostess greeting us with the:”This is not a lookout place, eat or leave…”
How can you be in the hospitality business when you are everything but hospitality! 1/10
This made us not going back!
For a pleasant experience, rather go to Jack’s Bagels! Awesome place, really tasty food and FRIENDLY STAFF!!!! 10/10 would recommend! And if you want a beautiful view, walk the St Blaize Trail, you will have the same or even more beautiful view with the light house in the view.
How can you be in the hospitality business when you are everything but hospitality! 1/10
This made us not going back!

Our establishment is a privately managed heritage site, and we clearly state that access is for paying patrons only—either those dining at our restaurant or participating in the lighthouse experience. This policy is communicated through visible signage at our entrance.
We do not have a female manager; our management is led by Marius. Additionally, we only operate until the afternoon, and our hours are clearly posted. It appears there may have been a misunderstanding regarding our policies and services. We aim to provide a valuable experience for those who support our business.
While we encourage visitors to explore the area and enjoy other local businesses who have great products and services to offer, we would appreciate not using our platforms to promote other establishments. If you have specific concerns, we invite you to contact us directly to address them.

We visited Mossel Bay as a stopover on our way to Kariega Game Reserve. Unfortunately the weather was terrible, high winds and rain. We decided to walk to the lighthouse to escape the hotel room. As we arrived they were closing, due to the weather. However, the security guard kindly let us onto the path to the top and when we arrived the owner/manager invited us into the cafe for a hot drink while he took his staff home. The hospitality was very welcomed on such a windy day! We didn’t get to see much of a view but would really recommend visiting the lighthouse for its delicious hot chocolate, warm hospitality and what I imagine would be perfect views!

My daughter and I ordered the eggs on toast. When the waiter served us the eggs were runny, so I asked him to please take them back and ask the chef to cook them more. When he returned with them mine were cooked, but my daughter’s were still runny in the middle. Neither of us touched the eggs. The view is beautiful so I decide to order a cake for each of us… my daughter pulled out a pube… I paid just over R500 for this mess and when I called the manager she offered to give us complimentary drinks. I passed on the offer and we left. I will not be returning. Very disappointed…
