Belle vue panoramique. Époustouflant.

The view is stunning once you get to the top!
If you are good in walking and wear proper shoes it won't be a real problem to ascend. Of course it is exhausting cause the last 600m are just climbing and doing stairs but if you don't mind a little challenge, then do it! The view is absolutely stunning and it was not crowded cause most people stop and return at bisondae. The cave is small but welcoming cause of the kind monk and there is fresh water. But the highlight of this hike really is the panorama you'll get to see :)
I did ulsanbawi at the same day but the hike to geumganggul was even more charming!

We found this hiking trail challenging tiring but as we wererelatively fit and hence it was not an issue to scale it. For me, who has height phobia, it was more daunting to walk up the staircases all the way to the top/cave. Anyway, I did it and I am sure others who share the same fear as me would be able to do so too.
The hike started on a flat, easy and scenic path. The direction was clear and easy to follow. Somewhere along the way, there was a toilet too. Before scaling the 600m up to the cave, there was a guard house with someone in it. If you need any help/info, I am sure you could approach him (but likely would need to converse in Korean).
The 600m ascent was tedious as it is going up, up and only up. Other than that, it was not dangerous or really difficult. You will probably worked out some sweat going up. We did, even in winter!
When we reached the cave, there was nothing spectacular about it. It was like a small worshipping place for prayers/donations/etc. You could catch a good view up there though. We descended from the cave and had our picnic/rest on some opened areas (just before the staircases to the cave). When we were done, we walked back the same path to get out of the park.
There are many trails in Seoraksan. Each with their specialities and beauties. Many options. Geumganggul Cave is just one of the options. Will return to explore more.

This cave sits about 600 m above sea level. It a hard climb to reach too. It will take 2 and a half to 3 hours to reach. At times you are walking across stairs next to a cliff face. It’s a little uncomfortable if you’re afraid of heights like I am.
When you get to the top, you are welcomed by a small Buddhist temple. The view is also spectacular. You get a 180 degree view of the national park. It makes the trip to the top all the worthwhile.
The best part is that nobody else was doing it. Most people walk to Biseondae Rock and then stop. I only saw two people walk past it and they didn’t venture all the way up to the top. If you want a challenging hike alone in the wilderness, go to Geumganggul Cave!

This is the cave temple in the rocky peak of Seoraksan Mountain. It's small and simple. But, it's good to come by with a nice view.
- About 90~120 min from Sogongwon Entrance of Seoraksan National Park. Available for a half day trip.
- After Biseondae, it's 30~50 min tough climbing. Especially the stairway at the end is steep. Not recommended to young children and seniors. It's not that risky, though.
- Before the stairway, there's a rocky observatory. Good to have lunch or rest watching the amazing view of Seoraksan Mountain.

This has been one of my favorite hikes in Korea. I love the views all the way up, and the end view is amazing! A little cave tucked into the side of a cliff. It is at times a tough climb, but so worth it.
