Visit the museum
Abu Jaber Museum is located next to the tourist information and has a decent display including old photos, pottery trade goods as Salt used to be on a major trade route. There is also a documentary video that explains the history of Salt.

A good introduction to As-Salt
Coming from Amman, Salt is a very different places and rewards some introduction. Abu Jaber House is a good introduction to the exciting history and lifestyle of the place. The visit is for free and there are guides waiting to show you around. We had Ma‘en who was really friendly and knowledgeable. Worth a visit!

We liked knowing more about Salt culture and history
The staff are friendly, good precautions especially during Covid pandemic. Spacious, and big enough to enjoy a variety of Salt culture.
You can also enjoy a cup of tea or coffee on the roof (you have to bring it with you because the café inside the museum was closed)

Visit if you are in the area
An old house that was built in the late 19th century / early 20th century, when King Abdullah the first the founder of the Jordanian Hashemite kingdom first came to Jordan from Hijaz, he lived in this house as a guest until his residence was prepared, it was turned to a museum when he first came to the Kingdom from Hijaz, this three-story building that was owned by a wealthy merchant and turned into a museum in the 21st century is not well used, it contains very few artifacts/furniture on exhibit.
It is a nice place to visit if you are in the area, but I wouldn’t recommend taking a special trip to see it, it is not worth it.

A fascinating and rich history
The Abu Jaber Museum is a great place to visit in the historic city of as-Salt. The building is beautiful and labyrinthine with its stairs and myriad rooms. One of the oldest grand houses of Jordan, from late Ottoman times, it's the perfect place to explore and learn and the history of this city and its people.

There are few artifacts or furniture items on exhibit, so it does feel a little sparse, but there is a lot of information available in didactic panels and there are educational spaces for schoolkids.

I learned a lot here, and will come back again soon. The tea shop was closed on this visit, but will presumably reopen in busier times.

The oldest town in Jordan. Some nice old Ottoman buildings. The tourist centre in this museum can give you a walking trail map

Buona introduzione alla splendida Salt

2015 Tentative UNESCO Architectural designation.
This was the fifth and last stop on our cold rainy 160 mile circuit of north Jordan from our Toledo Hotel in Amman. Fortunately our driver knew the narrow streets of this town to pass by many of the 19th C structures to give us an appreciation of the 'new' architecture in mellow limestone. Dreary in the cold rain.
I especially liked the new Salt Grand Mosque which compliments the many other historic buildings.

This is a huge site where good weather and lots of time is needed to explore properly.
