Das Mahanavami Dibba ist einer der höchsten Gebäude im königlichen Zentrum. Es steht innerhalb mächtiger Festungsmauern auf einer Plattform. Bei näherem Hinschauen bemerkt man, dass es verschiedene Bauphasen gab. Die ältere Außen Fassade ist mit Platten aus Granit erbaut und recht einfach verziert. Diese Phase stammt wohl aus dem 14. Jahrhundert. Später wurde eine weitere Fassade davor gebaut. Diese besteht aus weicheren Steinplatten, in die wesentlich feinere Reliefs ein getieft werden konnten als in den Granit. Auf dem dreistufigen Gebäude stand vermutlich eine Säulenhalle aus Holz.

It's huge structure with nice stone carvings. View from the top is very scenic. Close to pushkarini and is a part of royal enclosure

Dasara dibba is a platform in the royal enclosure in hampi. It was used for public celebrations, performances and processions during navaratri and dussehra festival. The original structure also had a mandapa which was destroyed by Islamic invaders.

As its name suggests, this area in Hampi was where the king of Vijayanagar, along with the rest of the royal family (except most of the women, who were housed in the Zenana Enclosure) stayed. Spreading across 59,000 sq mt, the Royal Enclosure had at one time included around forty-three buildings. Of these, most remain only in the form of either excavated tank-like dugouts, or low platforms, some with carved patterns—rows of marching elephants seem to have been a popular motif—along the edges.
Among the best-preserved of the somewhat extant structures is the Mahanavami Dibba, a grand three-storeyed granite platform which was once probably topped by a pavilion. The Mahanavami Dibba was used by the royal family at ceremonial and festive occasions (especially the festival of Mahanavami, or Dussehra), when they would sit here to watch the festivities. The square platform is about 25 feet high and a pyramidal structure made of granite, with steps from all sides leading to the flat surface on top. The top offers a panoramic view of the entire surrounding area. One can imagine how grand the entire place had been during the heydays of the Vijayanagara empire. The platform is decorated with rows of beautiful carving, including animal and human figures, deities, and more. Do go all the way up to the top—it’s not much of a climb, and does offer a good view of the surrounding ruins.
If you want an easy climb to the top do not climb the stairs without railings that are visible upfront; if you walk towards the left side of the monument, you can see another bunch of stairs which also lead to the top and are easier to climb. Once you get to the top it provides the onlookers with a 360 degree view of the surrounding landscape. The view from the top is not to be missed.
The entire side walls of Mahanavami Dibba are embellished with beautiful sculptures of various shapes and sizes. The bottom-most layer has numerous sculptures of miniature elephants. As one goes up, one comes across a variety of other stone carvings. A few of the sculptures are in black stone. The rest appear to be of other stones. The entire edifice is carved all around. A veritable treat for the eyes.
Adjacent to the Mahanavami Dibba is the most beautiful Stepped Tank or Pushkarni, just requires a small walk to reach there in the same complex.

Dasara Dibba is a large platform with considerable height and area. It was used by royals to watch the processions in the Royal enclosure. The attached picture is of a nearby stepped water tank (Pushkarini), and not of Dibba!

What a huge place this is! The ASI is still discovering these ruins. Take the huge steps to reach the top and click some amazing pics. There are hidden rooms. Our guide also showed us the ancient pipelines and how water was transported to the entire kingdom. There is also a step well. Huge plates on display used by the army and much more....We were super impressed and in complete awe. You have to visit to believe it.

The Royal Enclosure is a must-do in Hampi. Mostly it is just ruins but there are a several points of interest in the compound, like the Dasara Dibba which is a short climb up and has wide views of the entire area.
