This unassuming building in the main square in Nafplion holds a world class museum. Finds from Tyrins, Mycenae, Assine and environs in remarkably good condition, and beautifully presented. The pottery and glass exhibited here is more impressive for me than the museum in Ancient Corinth (which does win hands down on marbles and statuary). There's something very touching about the love and care that comes through the pieces shown here, with beautiful forms and intentional decoration. No sense of the mass production that we see in other locations. A definite must-see if you're here.

Fascinating collection of artefacts found in graves dating back thousands of years. Of particular interest are those from the Mycenaean period, 15th to 12th centuries BC: pottery (beautifully restored), jewellery, armour (as described in Homer) and a variety of seals denoting ownership of goods (or their origin) decorated with mythical scenes. Strongly recommend asking for the audio guide (no extra cost) which brings the exhibits to life and places them in their historical and political context.

A small and comprehensive museum covering the historical period of the Mycenaean era and the Iron Age. Perfect for families with young children as it does not require much time to tour.

It is an excellent local museum that everyone should visit. I liked it very much. I learned a lot of new historical information. What impressed me is that there was peace and quiet inside the place, so you can enjoy the tour.

The visit was worth a thousand, it is two floors and has many exhibits inside. At the entrance you can get a radio that gives you information about the exhibits. in front of each showcase, it has some numbers, you type them into the wireless and hear information about the season and the exhibits themselves. This makes the visit even more interesting and the experience really worth it.

In the central square of Nafplion, in Syntagma square. Imposing stone building of three floors, two of which can be visited, well preserved from the Venetian era and accessible to the disabled. The exhibition is spread over two floors and among the exhibits stands out the bronze armor of the Trees, with the weaponry of the warrior, as found in the tomb. The museum is neither small nor big, but it has a lot to see and is worth a visit.

I almost didn't go here because I was so focused on nearby Mycenae and Tiryns, but I'm so glad that I did! This is one of the best archaeological museums I've ever visited, not just in Argolis, but all of Greece. The way that everything is set up you really get the feeling that the museum curators love their work. If you are into the ancient history of the region, then this is a must-see!

Beautiful, well-arranged museum with a large collection of pottery and utensils. Very clear Greek and English explanation.
We found the ground floor the most interesting. Many objects to see, excavated mainly from graves in the area around Nafplion

Bonjour, votre commentaire est très enrichissant. Est-ce des faits que vous avez pu lire ou entendre en français sur place? Y a t'il un moyen pour une unilingue francophone, d'en apprendre autant sur l'histoire des artéfacts une fois sur place? Des plaques explicatives en français, un guide audio..?

I'm going in September with 3 friends. One needs a knee replacement and has pain with stairs. I see they have an elevator.
Do you remember if that means she might be able to do it with only a few others stairs here and there? Is there some places to sit along the way?
