An impressive view with a minimum of effort. If you get the idea to have a closer look by kayak, be advised there are portages of over 400 m to enter the canyon from either end that are much more difficult than some adventure web postings may suggest. The photo shows just one of many rocky, root-covered hills that you must traverse. That should put the gentle, 40-foot elevation climb of this trail in perspective!

This was a great short winter hike and we had a picnic at the top. The weather was perfect for our Valentines Day hike. The road to the trailhead is plowed at gritted and it is currently frozen so a very smooth trip, no problem if you are in a car, once it thaws it will be a different story. There is parking at the trailhead for a few cars. We didn’t need snowshoes as the trail was packed but we had cleats as it was slippery in places. The bathrooms at the gate and at trailhead are buried in snow so plan accordingly. It’s a short trail but a little steep at the beginning.

Our Group of 15 canoes Had a blast paddling through the Barron’s river.
We have rented the featherweight canoes that we’re deliver to the starting point and we left them on the ending parking lot. This was our 3 trip we took our time and stop for lunch that we packed. We had a swim and we did some fishing along the way. Everyone enjoy and did not complain about portages:)

This is a short, steep trail, but the view is absolutely breathtaking. I am so glad we made the drive from Eganville. The drive to the trail itself is very, very, very bumpy. LIke a washboard. But the view is so worth it. You can look all the way down and see people canoeing, and if you're really lucky they'll call up to you and you can have a chat with them 100m below you. This trail was on my list of trails to hike in Ontario and it was amazing. Do it if you can!

Finally crossed it off of our list this was quite the journey from our cottage, over 3 hours one way, but well worth it. We had my Parents 68 and 70 and my children 6/8/13 and we all thoroughly enjoyed the day. The hike was short but we stayed for a while to take it the breath taking views. There is a number of scenic look outs at the top and every one just as stunning. We also explored the river down at the picnic area and canoe launch. Definitely recommend this shot trail if you travel east of Algonquin at all!

When it comes to epic hikes with kids, the Barron Canyon Trail is the second amazingly epic hike my kids experienced in 2018. Located on the east end of Algonquin Provincial Park, in Ontario, close to Petawawa, it’s most convenient to access from the Sand Lake Gates.
We took advantage of hiking this trail when we were staying at Bonnechere Provincial Park, approximately one hour away by car.
The Barron Canyon Trail itself is short, only 1.5 kilometres and is a loop up to the amazing north rim of the Barron Canyon. It’s uphill for the most part here, about 200-300 metres, but not difficult at all. This trail is moderately trafficked and my four year old basically ran up this hill. Once you reach the canyon, it’s fairly level, few ups and downs.
There are no barriers at all. A fall off the ledge would prove to be fatal. Bringing children or anyone for that matter on this hike is a risk, but one that is manageable.

We stopped to do the trail on our way out of the park this year. Beautiful walk to the Canyon. Views were incredible. Very much worth the drive in to see the canyon. Color was still present the week after the Canadian Thanksgiving.

It is a little bit of a trek by car to get there but worth it especially since we did the High Falls cheater trail right afterwards.
The Barron Canyon Trail is a 1.5 km loop and easy hike. The view is spectacular and a great easy hike.

This is a beautiful hike. Fairly easy climb and well worth the view. The pamphlet is super informative, the trail well kept, and the view worth while.

This trail is a on the eastern flank of the park and way off from the usual hikes along hwy 60 on the western flank requiring a one way drive of around 190 kms. However, it’s worth it. Please note it also requires driving on 70 km/h rated wide dirt road of 29 kms into the trailhead. Your car will be coated with dust on completion of the trip.
