Beautiful mountain range. We visited the Visitor Center in Calabasas, walked around for a bit, and then drove to Malibu. Nice area, but no need to stay very long.

I visited two sub areas of the vast Santa Monica Mountain National Recreation Area and drove through a lot of it during my trip to Malibu. It is a beautiful area with mountains, streams and wildlife. Driving up away from the California coastline, it almost seems like you are in a different state or world. I visited Paramount Ranch, where they used to make movies and Solstice Canyon, where this a a gorgeous waterfall and two homes that were destroyed during wildfires. It is a definite must if you are in the LA area and want to escape the crush of the city.

Interesting drive back into the history of the west. See where the old movies were filmed, see some expensive homes, go for a few short hikes.

This is a must see in Santa Monica and definitely the best hike in this area. Been three times and still want to visit more. Stunning views as far as the eye can see.

Alweer grotendeels hersteld van de branden. Toch is het op veel plekken nog duidelijk te zien. Een heel mooi gebied om te Touren en te wandelen. Mooie bochtige wegen met van tijd tot tij prachtig uitzicht op de zee in de verte. We komen hier graag en het is iedere keer weer anders. En gelukkig niet zo druk als de kust of de stad. Heerlijk.

This recreational area is huge, so It is hard to make a general statement about it, but I can say that the Satiwa cultural center is a nice flat 1/4 mile hike from the parking lot. You come to an authentic Indian "house" and outdoor meting area, with a little museum next door. Beautiful mountain scenery all around.
