Visited this place with my boyfriend. The docents were very informative and friendly. They had a lot of knowledge about PV history. Seeing the collection of telephones, listening to a record on a machine that had to be cranked by hand, and learning about ringer washing machines made me realize how far we've come with modern technology. We also enjoyed walking through the garden.

We learned of the Pleasant Valley Historical Society Museum & Botanical Gardens via the "Passport 2 History". We visited this the same day as the Oxnard Historical Farm Park and the Reyes Adobe, and this was the highlight for the day! When rating places, I really try to be fair and look at something based on how close they're reaching their potential. Full disclosure... this is a small museum, but I feel like they're really doing their best to make it as good as it can be.
For the space, they have a lot of cool artifacts and antiques displayed. Well displayed at that! It goes mostly chronologically and also has some cool collections! They have an extensive collection of antiques phones and antiques clocks. There were some interesting hands on things to do... like we were able to play the organ! They also had an old WORKING telegraph! I've seen these before, but I've never been able to actually use it! It's little things like this that set this museum apart and made me give it 5 stars instead of 4. Disneyland or the Nature History Museum, this is not... but for a free, volunteer based museum... they're really doing what they can to make it interesting. They really had a lot of interesting things!
Another reason this gets `5 stars is that it's not just the museum, but there is a cool botanical garden in the back that is a preserve for monarch butterflies and bees. It was actually wonderful! There are a bunch of scattered artifacts back there like an old school bell, a (giant) fruit brandy still, and more. There is a large gazebo and picnic tables, which would serve as a lovely place for a picnic lunch. While we didn't see the bees, we saw quite a lot of butterflies (my preference anyways)!!!
Definitely make the trip to visit! there is even a pretty nice playground just a block down the street! Keep your expectations in tact. This is a small museum, but for a free museum, they're doing a great job!!!

Nice little historical museum that tells the story of Camarillo. Many items donated by families that have resided in the Camarillo area for generations. The garden and gazebo are worth a look and a walk.

A genuine, volunteer operated repository of local history of Camarillo's agricultural past and present. Great for kids to see what every day life was in the 19th and early 20th centuries . Includes a garden of indigenous plants. Call for operating hours.

This locally supported Botanical Garden probably will never make a top 10 list however, it is obviously loved and supported. It is apparent it is used for educational purposes, for both local history and wildlife. It was an enjoyable but small garden full of color and pollinators. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it, however, would definitely stop in if I were passing by. Many of the plants are labeled. I marked this as a 1-2 hour visit but I'm into plants and taking pictures. An hour would probably be enough for most visitors.

Jardim botânico agradável, com belos espécimes. Ainda no terreno, encontra-se um museu da história da agricultura local com vários objetos e fotos.

This is a small place, with a little history thrown in with the plants. The walk among the foliage is nice and relaxing, but all too short with no seating. I would love to see them get enough funds to put out a couple of benches and allow people to sit and relax in the relative quiet garden they've built.

This is a small museum used as an educational support for local schools. Exhibits illustrate pioneer days and feature Chumash Indian artifacts, everyday objects from settlers and farmers through the ages, vintage photographs, and maps. Good history of land grants, railroads, and early Ranchos. The botanical garden is a lovely site featuring native plants, a dry creek bed of river stones, benches, and a large gazebo. Docents are available for tours on Sa and Su from 12-4. There is a small research library on site.
Admission is free. I recommend this museum for those w/ young kids or those seeking local historical facts. It is a good stop for a road trip.
