WOW!! At the beauty God has created!! This was such a magnificent place to visit! I wish we would have had more time to stay here. The hike around to see the cove was easy and short. It was just beautiful every way you turned. We had plans to go along Hwy 1 from here but ran out of time but this place made up for it!

Its a gorgeous cove and beach you can look down on from the Bird Island Trail. Its a very short walk from the Bird Island car park (not many car parking spaces, though we parked straight away at 4pm on a Tuesday).
For the full effect of the turquoise water you want it to be sunny so bear that in mind given that in summer mornings are often foggy in these parts.
Be sure to check the beach for sea lions - the chances of seeing them on the beach are good. Also look out for sea otters all along the trail, we saw them in two different locations right at the start of the walk and then just past Bird Island (but not in China Cove itself)

The hike to through the trail continually offered a variety of feasts for the eyes. I would love to return.

Nice walk along the ocean front. Most of the vegetation was dead unfortunately. Coast line rocky, easy hiking and beautiful. Pretty crowded, but still very nice. Benches along the way to sit and take in the scenery. Public restrooms available.

We hiked all around point lobos state park, but these to were one of the highlights, very serene atmosphere and quiet , was a little overcast but that couldn't take away from its beauty. This whole park is a photographers paradise. We saw seal, comorants perched everywhere

i hiked the point lobos loop trail and made a vlog including tips and trip suggestions so future visitors can see what it's like, you can find a link to my youtube on my profile.
the china cove and gibson beach are my favorite areas in the reserve. this is a large park, filled with many beautiful sites to see and explore.
there's both free and paid parking. if you want to visit all of the areas, you should pay at the entrance and try to go from lot to lot. if you walking into the park for free, i would suggest sticking to the west/south side of the park, which would include coves, tide pools and beaches. i go over this in my video.
whether you want to spend a half day in this park or just a quick stop before you visit other attractions, this is definitely a spot to go to.

Thoroughly enjoyed this hike/walk - lots of fantastic views along many of the trails at Pt. Lobos. Just stop and admire mother nature at China Cove. Stunningly beautiful.

Trip was beautiful but the roads are slow and under construction in parts. The views are spectacular and worth the drive.

Be very cautious and do not leave any valuables in car as this area is targeted by criminals and thieves who smash car window and grab everything in cars. Apparently happens several times a day as it did to us. We had rented an SUV and that makes it very easy to smash the back window and grab everything inside. If renting a vehicle I will always rent a vehicle with a trunk from now on.
