Founded in 1797 by a Franciscan Missionary, the Adobe Structure was first constructed by the indigenous Ohlone people. A massive earthquake in 1868 destroyed most of the original structure, but Community efforts restored the Church to its original grandeur in 1985.
For a $10 per person self-guided tour, three of us walked around several rooms of exhibits and artifacts. There are signs, placards and explanations everywhere, plus a movie at the end detailing the history of this Church. We liked examining everything at our own pace, and the final part of the tour ended at the Church, the Altar, the landscaped Garden and the Cemetery. The large Statue of Father Junipero Sierra (the founder of this Mission) features prominently in the pretty garden.
The Staff in the Gift Shop were extremely friendly and pleasant, and helped us in selecting a particular item that we were looking for.
We spent an hour in total, and left satisfied at finding this historical gem in this small town.
Recommend a visit to tourists and locals alike.

A place full of history and arts. Gift shop has beautiful items, souvenirs and very friendly customer service staffs . A must see if you're in the Bay Area.

This a very special gem. The exhibits detail the period well and really give you a sense for the period. The church itself is very impressive and definitely worth seeing in person. Every local should visit this site and learn more about their home.

We had a lovely time visiting this mission as a homeschool field trip with a group of students. We participated in the full day tour, which consisted of a guided tour of the church, cemetery, and grounds; a break that allows time for lunch, a scavenger hunt in the small museum, and a chance to view the film that plays on continuous reel about the mission. After lunch, another docent led us in Ohlone games and led us on a nature walk of the adjacent grounds to enjoy and identify various plants that are native to the area and may have been used by some of the historical inhabitants. My two kids had a blast and loved this experience. I highly recommend it! (There's also a half day tour, which would be nice too if you are short on time or have kids with a shorter attention span.)

This is a very interesting place filled with history of Native Americans, first Spanish missions in California and their collaboration. There is a massive active historic church and a graveyard of the first settlers. Its museum is full of crafts and tools being used at the Mission’s farm and at the habitats of local Native Americans.

Love this old mission because it is filled with history and some perspectives about what happened in the past. it is like a time capsule.I love going to this beautiful,holy,mesmerizing and magnificent place; Everytime I finish my class at Ohlone,before the pandemic,I would go down to visit this sacred shrine and buy religious stuff.

We went to the Old Mission San Jose in Fremont. This is one of the original missions in California. There is also a store, museum, church, statues, and more on the grounds.

Very quiet.By yourself adventure is my favorite.I did this for a third grade project.It’s not usual.Usually it is a 4th grade project.I go to Warms Springs Elementary School.I’m in Room 50.I love this place.It is very big.It’s not small that you can only explore 1/10 of Fremont history.I love the white bag that we bought.It was worth it.I used it as a resource.I didn’t need to go online for info.It was the best resource.
