Best done with a local guide.

I have always dreamed of conquering the Rubicon Trail. I specifically purchased my Jeep Rubicon and modified my jeep with a 3” lift, 35” tires, skidplates, etc.

And because I went out with Nick from Barlow Adventures we comfortably traversed the trail without using a winch or recovery strap once. Nick is a local to Georgetown and has been guiding trips for years. The combination of Barlow guides and an amazing trail made this an awesome trip.

Highly recommended.

The One and Only!

Sure there are tougher trails and some even more scenic, but there's only one Rubicon -- a bucket list experience for every serious four-wheeler.

I lost my Rubicon virginity in 2017 as part of the Jeep Jamboree, a venue I highly recommend if you're new to this trail. Jamboree participants enjoy the safety of spotters at all major obstacles and even spare parts flown in by chopper if need be! Last year I did the 'Con as part of a small, 6-Jeep group which for experienced wheelers is much more enjoyable -- no waiting in line and freedom to run optional extreme obstacles like Soup Bowl. If you own a Jeep or any capable 4-wheel drive, you need to run this trail. It's long, technical -- one obstacle after another, scenic, has great camping, lakes, streams and gives a great sense of accomplishment for finishing in one piece. I would recommend at least 35-in. tires, at least one locker and 3-4 inches of lift. You'll enjoy the experience more with bigger tires, lift and front locker.

Jeep jamboree

We attended the 21st jeep jamboree on the rubicon trail. It was in great shape and we had a blast banging our way through the obstacles! JJUSA did a great job putting on a fantastic event! I said once was enough, and two years later here i am again. I'll be back!

Running the Rubicon seems to be on every jeepers bucket list. We did this with JJUSA. I can see why the trail is rated a 10. It's just obstacle after obstacle! This was such a great experience that we plan on doing it again!

300 Jeeps lots of newbie (lots of breakdowns and waiting for them to clear) Old timers breeze right through but have to wait for people to get outta the way

Der wahrscheinlich schönste Wanderweg am Lake Tahoe

ATV adventure

On June 4 I was part of a group that visited the Rubicon Trail . The company that offers the tour in Lake Tahoe rents 4 x 4 vehicles and takes you on a 2 hour trip until you reach Miller Lake. I had been on ATVs before but was quite ignorant and unprepared about this tour. No one told me that you are expected to drive these vehicles on such a rugged trail full of rocks and boulders, uneven terrain and going through ditches caused be rainfall or snow runoff. This is a dangerous trip and requires physical strength and prowess . I strongly recommend visitors NOT to risk injury and even your life. I fell off the vehicle and sustained serous bruising and pain and a broken collarbone and consider myself lucky that it was not worst. I am very upset that the tour company totally misrepresented the experience and did not truly describe the trail and severely undermined the risks involved. People have been killed riding ATVs on this trail. Save yourself and your loved ones from injury and even loss of life.

The views may be spectacular but had I known what was involved I would never have done it.

Rubicon's Dangle Bench
Most of the jeeps circle just below the actual zenith of Mt. Rubicon. But, if you just keep going up walking the last steep incline, the mountain comes to a small point with a natural bench for two at the very top looking over the entire Lake Tahoe Basin. On the East is a 3,000' cliff that decends from the peak itself. As you carefully seat yourself in the bench your feet and legs dangle over this 3,000 ft. drop. Settle down, lightly haze your eyes to see the actual curve of the earth on the lake's surface as your periferal vision delivers an unearthly vision.
