Right of Highway 1, Pelican Point is a photographers dream come true with a number of great interest points including the rugged coast of San Mateo County, a lighthouse dating back to the 1800's and some of the oldest Monterey Pines on the coast. Bring a jacket because it is almost always chilly with a strong on-shore breeze.

All these reviews that mention a lighthouse do not belong here, they are for Pigeon Point, not Pelican Point. There's no lighthouse in Pelican Point Beach-

The right spot to plan short driving break. All is close, history is laid out straight and simple. Look at the water, the beaches, the rocks ... then turn around and view risen slopes. Imagine hills filled with trees, cattle grazing in pastoral grasses along coast. Reflect on peaceful, quiet, uncrowded days of former times, saddle up, ride on, and see yourself as the happy, relaxed light house keeper i.e. 1915 ... quality life then - simpler times for sure.

Has great views as is generally the case with many coastal portions of Half Moon Bay. Worth the visit if you're already along the coast.

We stayed in Half Moon Bay and drove the Pacific Coast Highway. Glad we stopped here to see the light house grounds and learned a little history. The views are amazing!!!

Seeing the lighthouse from the highway just tells you to turn and visit. Parking no problem on our visit. A short walk to the cliff side and a bench to sit and relax. The view of the lighthouse and rough shoreline is indescribable. Such beauty and strength in one spot. The freezing winds made it even more magnificent Maybe hot chocolate next time. Pictures can't capture it's true beauty....

what lighthouse isnt worth the visit to see these beautiful monoliths looking out to the ocean,beautiful views down the coast where i manages to see several seals,its a shame the lighthouse is at the moment been restored and looks like it will take a few years to complete.there was a small gift shop that has the usual gifts and another exhibition of the history of the lighthouse with the lens on display.worth the visit and support

The lighthouse and grounds are very well kept and a beautiful setting and views. There was docent there dressed as an old light-houseman telling stories of the history of the lighthouse. It was there during the civil war and soldiers from the south tried to sabotage the lighthouse so Northern ships would crash into the rocks. Believe me, he has lots of stories about it's history! The buildings on the property are now a hostel for travelers. We very much enjoyed our visit here and would recommend a visit if your ever in the area.
