Nice Water Views - Pacheco State Park
2020年5月
We went to Pacheco State Park, which is by San Luis Reservoir. Its a good place to see the wildlife such as eagles and sometimes elk. People were also fishing.

Its also a good place to hike.

Watch out for angry cows
2019年12月
We decided to take the Spikes Peak trail this morning. The trail was a little muddy (to be expected given the rain) and the views were gorgeous. No people around. However, after hiking up the marked trail for about a mile, we were unexpectedly charged and chased by an angry cow! It was a terrifying experience which sent us running back down the trail. There need to be signs regarding not only the mountain lions, but the farm animals as well.

My favorite State Park
2019年5月 • 独自旅游
This is not a park for families; there is no swimming or boating. This park is all about hiking, biking or horseback riding. There are 28 miles of trails to explore, some with stunning views of mountains and the reservoir. It's not for everyone, but I got there as often as I can. You can hike all day in peace and quiet. Even if there are other cars in the lot, I seldom meet anyone on the trails. When I do, it's always a pleasant, brief conversation, then we go our separate ways.

Beautiful place to boat!

This is a nice spot to take your boat or go fish, not much vegetation, but beautiful in its own right, worth visiting.

Disappointing

When stopping to check out Dinosaur Point, we decided to check out the Pacheco State Park. We were extremely disappointed. There was a self-pay station and it was just a parking lot in the middle of nowhere. There wasn't much to it.

Beautiful views

If you want a behind the scenes of the real California, this trek is the one to take. Located only about an hour southeast of the hustle of San Jose are well marked trails and few people except for the occasional rancher and cows.
We took the Spikes Peak trail and although somewhat tough for a 60+ person it’s doable and worth it.
Take water and plenty of wind blocking clothing. You can view the wind turbines from nearby Pacheco Pass. Do the right thing and pay the 10 dollar fee (have the exact amount) and enjoy. Restrooms are at the parking lot but there are no other facilities.

We took the Spikes Peak trail and were delighted by the mix of shale, sandstone, limestone, and granite. A bit of incline makes for a healthy hike.

A view of the lake, and possible fossils

This is, so far, an undeveloped park that is lakeside. It is a nice stop along 152 above the San Luis reservoir, no restrooms so enjoy the view, not a lot of bushes to "go behind" either

Beautiful outdoor adventure!

This is the perfect place to go for a hike or a trail ride. During the spring it's absolutely beautiful with the rolling green hills and wildflowers. Be careful in the summer though, there are rattle snakes up there. Definitely a nice place to visit!

Best Scene of water and park

The Pacheco Pass, elevation is a mountain pass located in the Diablo Range in southeastern Santa Clara County, California. It is the main route through the hills separating the Santa Clara Valley and the Central Valley.

I was driving to Sacramento and found this place, hence stopped and relaxed for a while.
