The Solar Living Center is a great place that is going through some changes. Many people who have visited may have noticed that much of the center has become run down or has been moved. As far as I am aware, the Tiny House and the Hobbit house are no longer available to stay at during visits and the Real Goods store has moved into a newer, smaller building that is not as focused on solar as it once was. It seems to be transforming into more of a book store and gift shop. The classes are still very good, which is my main reason for going and as far as I am concerned I wish they had classes like these in every major city. Since they don't the Solar Living Center is a great place to learn things like sustainable farming, aquaculture and solar technology that you can't learn about many other places. While I understand the appeal of the cannabis business and the Solar Living Center's attraction to it, I have to say that it would be a terrible tragedy if Ecco Terra which has recently bought the property allowed the cannabis business to drive out every other worth while activity associated with this place. While the property is showing signs of neglect and the people who run it are still trying to define what the Solar Living Center is to become, this is still a beautiful place to come and has a lot to offer those who want to learn more about sustainable living, and solar technology.

We recently had our son's wedding here. The center was very accommodating, and was simply gorgeous! The grounds are beautifully landscaped using recycled water and recycled and upscale objects in it's facility. You can visit and learn about solar energy and sustainable living. Family friendly and for peeps who use cannabis, a dispensary. If you are in the northern wine country, make a trip to the Solar Living Center. Don't plan a visit during fire season.

Our family takes an annual trip to the Solar Living Center. In the past we've loved to walk the grounds talk about the systems they use (solar, greywater, aquaculture). We've used the center for inspiration in our own homestead implementing many of the systems we see at the Center.
This year we visited and found something very different. The aquaculture fish environ was unmaintained and chokes in algea, the store that demos off grid products is gone, and the primary focus is the 21 years and over cannabis dispensary store.
The solar Living real goods store is now a much smaller hat and munchies; an auxillary to the cannabis store. It even says that at the entrance to the dispensary - a sign to the store with "Munchies.".
Now I'm happy for legalization but I don't go to the solar center for a liquor store.
I left with no new inspiration or access to ideas to improve my homestead but if I want to get high, it's the place to go!!
So sad. I've been going for years.
No longer worth a visit unless you want cannabis or want to pay $1,000 for a solar class.
All Real Good things come to an end.

Staying in the Tiny House at the Solar Living Center is one of those experiences that would be for everyone but at the same time, won’t be a disappointment to those who seek it out, or are anxious to discover new things. I discovered the Solar Living Center about a year earlier while returning from someplace else, and was so fascinated with the place I looked them up and found that they teach courses there on solar energy, so after signing up for one of their courses I found that I could stay in their Tiny House. The Tiny House is exactly how it sounds, very small, yet comfortable and in a park like setting. If having a park all to yourself is something that interests you, then staying at the Solar Living Center is something you should consider. The park is more than just a park though. Throughout the park there is artwork and exhibits designed to expose people to solar power, biodiesel, aquaculture and more. This is more than a place to just retreat from the world for a few days, but also a great place to be inspired and learn new things.

Not much was "happening" when we visited, but we enjoyed strolling thru the gardens to see the exhibits, ponds, and veggie garden. There are several eco-cabins you can often tour, but all of them were rented out and not available that day. The Real Goods Store is on the premises with everything ECO that you can imagine - from soap to hand-cranked small kitchen appliances, solar panels, and composting toilets. You name it, they've got it. We can imagine that this would be an excellent place for school children to learn all about living lighter on the earth.

We went to visit on the way back from Vichy Springs. The place is very educational, with lots of ideas and information on how to reduce our carbon footprint. Some are very easily integrated into our lifestyle. The garden with ponds are really beautiful. We love the art installations all over the premise.

Beautiful place to picnic and let the kids explore nature. There are good in the ponds and they sell fish pellets so the kids got a kick out of feeding the fish. The store there is awesome too!

El lugar es muy interesante, en general es una invitación a la utilización de energías renovables y a una mejor relación con el planeta. Tiene una tienda, muestras de hidroponia, bicicletas que generan energía y fuentes. Al centro del lugar hay un lugar con una acústica bastante buena en el que te ves rodeado de agua. Hay veces que puedes encontrar festivales, fiestas o rituales muy interesantes (como el del solsticio de invierno).

I've been here a few times, most recently this past August, and I've always enjoyed it here. It's peaceful, sustainable, and cool. Great store, comfy places to sit, nice to m wander a bit, check out their watery labrynth, etc. They even have a little AirBnB shack there!

We've been going here for almost 20 years. After many years, it's still the same, with a few additions, but it hasn't turned into disneyland. It was really wonderful to return to have a picnic with our grown kids and 3 yr. old grandaughter.
