Built in 1459 (the same year Khan Jahan Ali died), the famous Shait Gumbad Mosque is the largest and most magnificent traditional mosque in the country. Shait Gumbad means ‘the Temple with 60 Domes’ – a misnomer considering there are actually 81. This fortress-like structure has unusually thick walls, built in the tapering brick style, and is a hugely impressive sight. The overall architectural influence is unmistakably Turkish, and the arches within the main hall are a graceful exercise in geometry.

This historic, brick mosque is truly a marvel. Beautifully proportioned from the outside, the interior is just as spectacular. Locals will want to interact with you which adds to the special quality of the place.

While visiting the Sait Gumbad mosque we saw this unique architectural asset .The Singair Mosque is 200m across the road from the Sait Gumbad Mosque on its southeastern side. It is a square shaped single dome mosque. In what is typical to the Khan Jahan Style, the dome is supported on thick walls and topped with a cambered cornice. One Dome Singair Mosque was built by Khan Jahan Ali and his followers in 15th-16th century. It has 3 arched entrances on the east & one on each side of the south & north sides. It’s wall is about 2.15m thick. The central multicusped mihrab is profusely decorated with terracotta rosettes & foliate motifs bordered by rectangular frame. Have a look, while you are visiting the Sait Gumbad Mosque.

世界遺産のシャット・ゴンブス・モスジット。
1459年…日本で言えば応仁の乱の10年位前に
カーンジャハーンアリによって建立。
シャットゴンブスとは60のドームと言う意味らしいが実際は77あるそうな。
内部のミフラーブも10基あり規模の大きなお寺です。
内部では靴を脱ぎ、柱の下に置くのが慣わしのようです。
靴の裏同志を合わせて、靴は聖職者から見えない柱の影に置くのが作法のようです。
説法が終わるとおのおの祈ったり、子供がはしゃで走り回ったりしていました。
他の地方からの国内団体巡礼観光も多く受け入れているようでした。

This ancient mosque is a UNESCO world heritage site and it is filled with history. There are actually 77 domes in the mosque. The mosque is built with red brick and inside the mosque there is a series of archways throughout the area. Surrounding the mosque there is a beautiful and peaceful garden. The garden contains signs with inspirational quotes. If you walk further on over a small ridge there is a lake.
There are bathroom facilities near the entrance to the mosque (squat toilets).
There are guards that work here who were very friendly.
This is a good stop between the Sundarbans area and the Rocket Steamer Ship.

Sixty dome mosque is one of the oldest archeological history of Bangladesh.
It is located in Bagerhat district in southern Bangladesh which is in Khulna Division. It is about 3 miles/ 6 Kilo meter far from the main town of Bagerhat. Bagerhat is nearly 200 miles/ 322 Kilo meter away from Dhaka which is the capital of Bangladesh and 22 miles/ 37 kilo meter from divisional town Khulna.
During 2014 to 2016 a massive restoration work has been completed by Department of Archeology of Bangladesh Government as a part of Conservation and environmental improvement.
This arena is full of lash greenery, you can seat and observe the beauty of mosque. A bid pond is also situated beside the mosque.

It is one of the most amazing mosque discovered by excavating earth amidst forest covered area. It is famous for it's domes, called Sat Gambuz Mosque (means in Bangla- a mosque that has 60 domes). But in reality the mosque has 77 domes. The mosque indicates a time when many hundred Muslims could say prayer at a time- however, history cannot recall such a time when so many Muslims lived here- inside Sundarban (?), ruled by powerful Hindu rulers. It is a kind of mystery. Though there are now many versions of history that somehow tries to explain a kingdom rules by great saint Khan Jahan. Since, a tomb of Saint Khan Jahan is nearby. It is a great place to visit and explore the history of Muslim in this part of world.
