A very beautiful museum that is worth the detour! The facilities, the design of the building and even the little café, everything is thought out and lovely. A very refreshing and pleasant place to visit.

While visiting LA, visited this museum while also visiting the LA County Art Museum afterwards. The museum is small and I only liked the permanent collection for the classics. Not a fan of the more modern exhibits. There are a some paints by Rembrandt and few impressionist like Sisely and van Gogh to make the visit worth it. But probably would not visit again if in LA in the future.

I’m not a great fan of contemporary art but this collection is very interesting and is beautifully displayed . Also, the 19th and 17th century pieces are of the highest quality,
The Hammer itself is a lovely building with a delightful courtyard where you can eat.
The museum shop is excellent

Newly updated, always enjoyable. The new laser sculpture is great fun. The restaurant has lovely ambience, and the courtyard is delightful...and its free.

La collezione permanente non è vasta ma ha pezzi pregevolissimi, soprattutto ottocenteschi (Van Gogh, Gaugin, Manet, Moreau, Sargent e altri artisti di primissimo livello). Molto interessanti le mostre temporanee di arte contemporanea. L'ingresso è gratuito e non è necessario prenotare!

This is a favorite. There is a core of Hammer's classical art, Rembrandt, impressionists. Some key Daumier's.
Then, there are galleries with a variety of contemporary art, some of the edgiest one will find in any LA museum. Well presented. Friendly staff. Good layout. Good, comfortable facilities and lighting.
Some reconstruction going on at this time, but it does not affect the overall museum experience. Parking is easy below the museum, entry on Westwood or Gayley.

They have amazing works of art that inspire.
Legends are here as well including Rembrandt.
It's free and well worth the time.

This amazing museum is free & has an incredible collection of artwork from a variety of classic painters. I was truly astounded at the vvariety of original works of art I was able to see from the private collection of Armand Hammer. The bathrooms are a work of art, as well!

We decided to see the Hammer Museum and went on Primary Election Day. It was a long bus ride out Wilshire Blvd from the convention center (used the #20 bus) to the UCLA campus. We found entrance free. We checked in and were then able to visit both the permanent collection and the Paul McCarthy exhibition. The lobby gallery showed some recent works and we enjoyed these immensely. We then went upstairs to the permanent collections, which afforded us the opportunity to see the Wonderfull collections and works by some of our favorite artists, we never saw before, and several of which were not obvious in our recognition. We then went to see the rather crude, avant guarde, drawings of McCarthy (not McCartney). The drawings were strikingly sexual and angry in tone and implementation. Most definitely explicit and not for the timid or prudish. Some younger visitors might be upset. All in all worth the trip and visit. The voting at the museum actually added to the spectacle, and the length of the line the youthful age of the voters looked like a wonderful awakening of civic duty.
