We had a FABULOUS time here! We sat on the patio overlooking the nice garden. Had sandwiches from Panino (Amazing!) We were served by Alice who was so personable, sweet, engaging and helpful! We truly enjoyed our wine tasting experience here!

I have been a wine club member for years and have always felt welcome and at home. I have joined and dropped several wine clubs over the years. This one will stay. The wines are fabulous, the tasting room is small but never feels crowded because we are attended to so well.

My family and I have been members on and off for years now. We love the wineries both Gainey and Evans, but most of all the wines. Honesty I’ve never had any problems or ever felt uncomfortable at the wineries. Yet, Yesterday I took some friends in as we were celebrating a birthday. There was two ladies whom where not busy, considering it was the labor weekend. We sat on a table of four, like we usually do. So we get our first pour and the women who was pouring us continues with her conversation with another party that was sitting at the bar and with the other wine pourer there. We had to raise our glasses or try to stick our heads up waiting for the next pour about two times more. She absolutely ignored us and made us feel like we had to be begging for more. After the third time, I told my mom and friends let’s just stand at the bar for the last two pours. I’m sadden to say I felt racism for the first time in that tasting room. I’m also sad to have to cancel my club membership just because of a couple of employees at the tasting room. We absolutely loved coming in when Christy was working here. I’ll just have to try new options in Los Olivos now.

If you ever had a question about whether or not you should join a Wine Club, make sure Evans Ranch is your answer.

We joined Evans Ranch wine club a year ago because their wine is just SO good. And your odds of ever finding it outside of the winery is minimal. At least I had never seen or heard of it. But because their Chardonnays were so good ... and we are Chardonnay pigs ... we had to join. But their reds, particularly their Santa Rita Hills Syrah, is drop dead incredible. Evans Ranch is owned by the same person who owns Gainey. And membership at one allows you to sample at both for no charge. Kind of like "2-Fer Hour" at you local bar.

But a couple of months ago I got an email from them inviting us to attend, for free, a "barrel to bottle" event highlighting their latest vintages. I had never been to such an event, thought it sounded fun, and immediately signed up. We were 2 of about 400 of their wine club members to attend ... and it was PHENOMENAL. In addition to being some of the first to sample their new vintages, we also were able to compare it against their "old" favorites. And it was amazing the subtle flavor changes that could be discovered as the wines breathed in air for the first time.

They also served a wide variety of skewered salmon, beef, chicken and even mushrooms to allay your hunger as well as having build-your-own mashed potato bar with all sorts of delicious fixings. So we got to enjoy incredible wines and food too.

But wait. There's more. The people serving the wines drawn directly from their casks were Gainey and Evans Ranch's managers, very knowledgeable about their business as well as their wines. What's more, Dan Gainey was there the entire time and very gracious with both his time and sharing information about the business and wines he loves. He said the whole gathering was to recognize his valued wine club members and give back to them an even better ... and unique ... wine tasting experience. You will not meet a nicer guy than Dan Gainey.

I did not understand the relationship between Gainey and Evans Ranch. Dan explained that he named Evans Ranch after his dad's first name. And the reason why he was holding the Evans Ranch event at Gainey was because Evans Ranch is a production site that does not have guest or real visitor facilities like Gainey.

And then he gave even better discounts on wine purchases that wine club members would normally enjoy. I bought a lot of my favorite wines at bargains I could not believe. You could even buy your special wine but, before paying, pull a cork from a bag to find out how much more you would save on any purchase over $50 ... from 25% to 50%. I saved an additional 30%. Very nice, and fun.

Throughout the event a live band rocked us with great music. And while the event was held primarily in the main parking courtyard at Gainey, the entire winery was ours.

If I ever had any question about becoming an Evans Ranch wine club member, the Barrel to Bottle event answered it in spades. I understand that they hold one just for Gainey wine club members too. Makes me think about doubling my membership with them

Great job Evans!!!

The problem with going to lots of wineries is that it is so easy to find yet another version of your favorite varietal that you must add to your cellar.

We first visited Evan's Ranch just a couple months ago. Many of their wines are just good. But their Chardonnays are excellent. And one of them is downright knock your socks off incredible.

OK. Cut to the chase. Their excellent Chardonnays are the 2013 Las Brisas and 2014 La Marina delights. If you prefer your Chardonnay with more of a hint of grapefruit flavor, go for the Las Brisas. But we long for the super mellow smooth buttery oaky Chards, and the La Marina is off the chart.

It was so good that we signed up for their wine club based just on that Chardonnay. In that regard, Evan's ships 6 bottles of each of those Chards twice a year, and had a nice discount on winery purchases exceeding those normally afforded wine club members IF you buy wine the day you join their wine club. Considering how good the La Marina Chard was, it was a no-brainer.

Their tasting room is kind of like a Cowboy Saloon decorated by Melvin Belli ... rich wood overtones but with a step-up-to-the-bar type of setting. And for those of you not old enough to remember Melvin Belli, he was a San Francisco lawyer who had a penchant for having an outrageously decorated office.

The Evan's Ranch tasting room is just steps away from the Los Olivos Wine Merchant Restaurant. A nice way to satisfy your hunger just before or after you taste those excellent Chards ... or reds if you prefer.

This tasting room is in town rather than at a winery, but it was still nice. They only make 6 wines, so it's easy to try them all. The lady pouring our wine was super nice. If you're stopping in Los Olivos at Panino's for a sandwich, I recommend going across the street and giving Evan's Ranch a taste.

My wife and I visited the Evans Ranch Tasting Room with some friends......the tasting room was wonderful and so was the staff.......after tasting the selection of Evan's Ranch wine, we joined the club! Probably one of the best Pinot Noir wines ever........I definitely suggest joining the club. You can't purchase their wine in retail outlets. Simply delicious!

Evans Ranch is the very high end of Gainey, which we also enjoy. Stopping at their tasting room in town is always a must.

We are wine club members at Gainey Vineyard. They have a "sister" vineyard that has a tasting room in Los Olivos (and our Gainey membership would allow us to taste it for free). We had lunch at the Los Olivos Wine Merchant Cafe that can't be more than 150 feet away ... so we decided to give Evan's Ranch a try.

Wow were we blown away. These are high end, high quality, elegant wines but actually very reasonably priced for how exceptional they are. The tasting room setting is even elegant, more like a wood-laden bar with comfortable stools than the typical stand-in-place-and-sip-and-then-leave tasting room. The wine corks are even wax-dipped so they even look unique ... an impressive presentation if you decide to use them as a gift.

We sampled several buttery-oaky-smooth Chardonnays, a couple rich Pinot Noirs, and full bodied Syrahs. All of them were incredible. But since your vote only counts if you buy them ... I ended up buying a couple 2014 Santa Rita Hills Chardonnays and a couple 2013 Santa Rita Hills Syrahs. Using our Gainey membership to get (at 20% off) the Chards at about $30 each and the Syrahs at about $37 each (both 750ml size).

All of Evan's Ranch wines are what I would call "sippin' wines". They are almost too good to have with a meal or appetizers. I can hardly wait to create a special occasion to enjoy them ... or give them to special friends.

One of the pleasures of going to wineries you never heard of is that sometime you find a really special one. (We actually found 2 on this trip, the other being Andrew Murray).

Enjoy.
