Es un museo muy chiquito. Lo atienden dos personas. Tenían un simulador que no pudimos usar porque no había quien lo atendiera. Si estás en Oakland está bien ir pero si estás en San Francisco la verdad no vale la pena ir… demasiado chiquito y cobran la entrada

Stumbled on this small collection 12 years ago when traveling on business and taking the wrong turn coming out of the airport car rental center. Thought it took a while to find my way back my visit was definitely worth the effort. The museum is located in an old hangar complex featuring a handful of Vietnam era Navy aircraft outside, with a few more military and general aviation aircraft inside under cover. There are several small rooms featuring memoribilia honoring the Doolittle Raiders, jet engines, seperate exhibits on black and women aviators, the 8th Air Force, and two airlines that had ties to the Bay Area. The highlight for me was the Short Solent Mk lll flying boat built in the late 1940's. In the short period before the advent of jet airliners it carried passengers from from Southampton to Johannesburg a four day excursion that included landing on the Nile at Luxor, Egypt. As an aviation buff I paid extra for a private tour with a docent who was able to answer questons about the aircraft, and allowed me to take some incredible photos in the cockpit and through the bow hatch. The four-engine aircraft had a brief role in the first Indiana Jones movie and there are some nice references to be found in the upper deck. Its one of only two survivoring Short Solents in the world, so it will be appreciated by aviation enthusiasts. The volunteers recognize the significance of their collection, they were friendly without being obtrusive. Wish I had more than just two hours to to learn about the museum, will deinitely have to come back.

Grands had great time and learning is fun too.. both young and older learn history about planes and history of the people who made them what we see now..

I attended the museum and spent about 2.5 hours here. There are about 12-18 aircraft on static display with placards describing them. There are also several aircraft engines on display, both jet and reciprocating, with one or more recip engines cut away for internal viewing. The docents were well versed in historic (mainly military) aircraft and have a definite passion for what they do. There are also rooms featuring blacks in aviation and women in aviation. All in all,a worthwhile trip and is recommended.

It’s crown Juwel is without a doubt the Short Solent III Flying boat in BOAC (British Overseas Air Corporation). Bill our guide is lovely man - retired TWA / American Airlines - an a very knowledgable man. He has a lovely way to communicate and does involve kids in exploring this venerable aircraft.
The lady at the till is a treasure and shares the same passion for flying.

This is an indoor/outdoor display of various airplanes, photographs and engines. You walk around and read the signs. About half the planes are outside so only go in good weather. You may not touch or go into any of the planes. There are kit planes and military planes.
Don't expect a guided tour or and enthusiastic docent to fill you in. There was not an audio tour available.
I noted there are several children's spaces and an airplane playground outside.

This small museum, not far from the Oakland Airport, is home to a couple of dozen old planes, and a nice collection of artifacts. It is unpretentious and you can get up close and personal with the planes in the collection. I rally enjoyed seeing some birds that were unfamiliar. This is a great lace for kids, and easy to get to by car.

This museum was truly a larger than life treasure of aviation history - and the staff (John H. especially) are amazing! The knowledge that was shared with us on the many aircrafts the museum displays was absolutely incredible. We will be back for sure the next time we visit the area and are SO GLAD we found this gem! Thank you John for a wonderful experience that your new friends from Vermont will never forget!

My buddy and I had a really good time at this museum, it exceeded our initial expectations based on the initial appearance
When we first got there we were a little concerned because it looked old and it looked very small. But we met a very helpful assistant inside and ended up spending twice as long as we thought we would be getting historical information and details on the engines and planes and some history about Oakland too.
Just my opinion but it's worth a visit if you are in aviation buff at all, and/or are interested in Oakland history.

This is a small museum with interesting airplanes. We've been with our kids. It is an easy museum to visit if you are in the East Bay and if you like planes then you should certainly visit.
The docents who were there when I visited were very knowledgable about the planes too.
