We returned to Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline on a delightful May day. There are nice views of Oakland and of the water. It is a pleasant park.

We returned to Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shorelne. Its a very scenic park and water area. There is parking on the western side of the park. Looking east, one can see nice views of the Oakland skylne, including the nearby colisuem and ballpark. There is areas to play and have picnics. There is also a boat launching area.

An Ok park along the Bay, nice to have the green space. But don't go out of your way as it is not all that special.

We come here often. It’s a great place to walk and always loaded with birds. A spotting scope is helpful to really see all the birds in the distance on the water. But there are plenty of birds up close. Look for burrowing owls on the mounds as you drive in. You may hear or see ridgeways rails out in the master as well.

We walked out 3.5 miles, then back. Always along the water, ideal place for a walk or run. A bit windy when we were there, doubt that is always the case. Very clean and flat, path is well maintained.

I work nearby so steal an hour when I can to go out for a walk here n the coast line. It provides the perfect scenery for a little escape from work and blasting air conditioning to visit the variety of critters (squirrels, bunnies and lizards) as well as a myriad of birds. It's very quiet and clean and well maintained. I bring my kids here to ride bikes along the miles and miles on paved pathway when I have time as well. Nice place. I'm here at least 4 days a week.

Nice preserved Bay front by the airport and the airport business park. Nice to see a commitment to open space on this valuable land fill.

This is a lovely park on the Oakland Estuary. It is right next to the Oakland airport. It is a bird watching hot spot. the park has paved pathways for walking, biking and running throughout the entire park, but I would say the entire paved pathways total about 4 miles.

The park has a play area for children with some climbing structures, but no real playground. It is mostly flat and the pathway is not shaded so it can be hot.

As a woman, I don't always feel safe here as I have run into some very weird men, and the park can be deserted in some sections. I feel comfortable going here with a friend, and the park is frequently patrolled by park rangers.

I often go to the San Leandro Marina Park or Alameda Shoreline Park instead because both are prettier and feel safer.

With its location in West Oakland (west side of Interstate 880) it is a large water area with nice views in the distance of Oakland. One can go here for walks, go boating, and have picnics.

There is a major road by the park so its pleasant just to view as one drives by. We go this way often just for the views on our way from Oakland to Alameda. Its close by the Oakland Airport area as well.

For birds, the Arrowhead Marsh is a stopover on the Pacific Flyover. It is part of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network. As such, its good for bird viewing.

The park is one of the many parks in the excellent East Bay Regional Park District.

Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline is a ribbon-like park that surrounds much of San Leandro Bay, in Oakland, California. This park takes the form of a modest recreational center (Shoreline Center), a boat launch, Arrowhead Marsh, and a large newly constructed facility (Tidewater Aquatic Center). I have only used this park for weekend walks, and I generally take a 10-mile loop trail from Alameda Island, over the Otis Drive bridge, past the airport and onwards in a counterclockwise direction, and finally past the Tidewater Aquatic Center, and over the High Street Bridge to return to Alameda. On the way, I generally encounter about a dozen other people, engaged in walking, running, or on bicycles. Thus, you can see that this park is vastly under-utilized.

If you try to ignore the not-so-beautiful chunks of concrete that are found at the water's edge, and if you ignore the occasional industrial waste at the water's edge, and if you ignore a junk yard containing hundreds of scrapped vehicles, AND if you try to devote your attention to the MANY, MANY egrets, pelicans, and other water birds, and to the vast expanses of intriguing verdant marshlands that are found at the southern end of the park, then you will have a great time.

(An alternative, is to drive to the marsh at Tomales Bay, but that is an hour's drive away, and not exactly convenient for those who want a brisk 10-mile walk before brunch.)

Now, regarding brunch after taking the above walk, I recommend La Penca Azul (love their Spanish omlettes) on Park Street in Alameda or, Peet's Coffee also on High Street. Also located in this shoreline park are several civic sculptures, including the thought-provoking DUPLEX CONE by sculptor Roger Berry, as well as sculptures of a whale, and of huge versions of creatures found in tidal pools.

As might be apparent to the casual viewer, this shoreline park is still struggling to lift itself out of urban squalor, and the available information discloses that a number of civic-minded organizations are being successful at spearheading this struggle. From the vantage point at one particular part of this park, that is, at the Tidewater Aquatic Center, the view is actually good enough to feature on a postcard.

Shoreline Center is an indoor/outdoor facility for corporate events, weddings, or parties. It accommodates 60 seated or 125 standing guests. It features a commercial kitchen, a main room, and a large outdoor deck. Tidewater Aquatic Center has launch area for kayaks. The center has a boathouse, training area, boat storage facility, and Recreation Department offices. The Oakland Strokes, a non-profit junior rowing organization for schools, operates the boathouse and indoor training area and provides outreach to neighborhood youths in the sport of competitive rowing.
