A group of docents from the Stagecoach Inn Museum in Newbury Park, CA, were honored to be hosted by the director, Gary, and another charming docent yesterday on a tour of the square. We, of course, are especially appreciative of people who love their local history (all history is local, so they say) and both of them were well versed and entertaining in their narration as we enjoyed the beautiful square and it's 11 buildings that have been moved here from all over the county. Thank you to both of them for a lovely morning.

I've been living in the area for years, but I learned so many new things about local history! We had a very friendly and knowledgeable volunteer guide, Gary Blum, who actually had a family connection to one of the Victorian mansions on the site. This made the tour personal, and Gary's enthusiasm for the site and Oxnard in general really came through. Heritage Square is a little hidden gem on the Central Coast, and when we were there on a Tuesday morning, there was no one else! The atmosphere of the courtyard between the old, wooden mansions in charming, and its a unique and special place to stop for lunch or coffee on a road trip through the area.

This is an area set up as an area of well kept older houses in a very nice setting. The problem is the only thing of interest is to walk around the outsides and look at the homes. All the home are businesses, attorney's office, dentist, a restaurant and other businesses.

The show case here is a restore water tower that served the city. There are a few boutique shops around to be seen, and sandwich shops too. Right in the middle of the quiet part of Oxnard, it is a pleasant place to spend a few minutes wandering.

You don't need a reservation for a tour on weekends. Just show up on Saturday 10-4 or Sunday 1-4. The tour includes a walk through a Turn of the Century park with beautifully restored buildings. Docents are in costume to add to the atmosphere as they share stories of the people and the homes. All for only a $5 donation!

Lovely buildings in an elegant square. I very much enjoyed my visit to the Winery there for a tasting, as well as the cafe, which had a unique and delicious Turmeric Latte!

We went there on a nice sunny Monday and other than a quick walk through on the paths among the restored houses - which are nice to see - there was nothing going on - nothing open - nothing else to do.

What a surprising find in downtown Oxnard. A beautiful small village area, with turn of the century original architecture. Make sure that you read all of the plaques in front of all of the structures. The square itself is gorgeous, and we had the good fortune to see a small wedding there. The restaurant menu looked very nice, and had a comfortable looking patio; however, a note to visitors, it is not open on Sundays. Round out your visit with a top notch wine tasting with Faye and George at Rancho Ventavo Cellars, and you will enjoy this wonderful experience.
