I thought I had heard about Arlington Garden before via a Groupon offer, but I confused Arlington Garden with the Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden across the street. Arlington has always been free and is open daily, whereas Storrier has an admission charge and only open weekends. It's interesting how there are two public gardens on what is primarily a residential street between bustling thoroughfares S. Pasadena Ave. and Orange Grove Blvd.

In the late 19th and earth 20th centuries, this area was called Millionaire's Row because many wealthy families from the East Coast and Midwest had mansions here. The main remaining one is the Wrigley Mansion, now home to the Pasadena Tournament of Roses (they offer tours part of the year). The 3-acre Arlington Garden site once held the French chateau-inspired home of the John Durand family. The home was eventually razed, the furnishings sold at auction, and the land was purchased by CalTrans when it was actively trying to extend the 710 freeway up to the 210 freeway, a 30+ year battle it eventually lost, mainly to the mighty little city of South Pasadena. CalTrans leases the land to Pasadena, which in 2005, with the help of Arlington Drive neighbours Betty and Charles McKenney and garden designer Mayita Dinos, broke ground on the Garden.

The garden has a more informal air than other larger, more highly organized (and funded) gardens in the area (Huntington, Arboretum, Descanso). It is a regenerative garden designed for our Mediterranean-like climate with numerous areas such as an olive allee, pine forest, wishing trees, labyrinth and citrus grove, whose oranges are made into marmalade that is for sale (we were able to sample some). There are tables under the olive trees where you can picnic, and many seating areas throughout. The only structure in the garden is a staff tool shed, where there is a porta-potty and water bottle refilling station.

A pleasant place to spend an hour or two to relax or eat. It you're visiting the area, combine it with a tour of the Wrigley or Gamble House or a Norton Simon Museum visit.

Very Small Garden! I’m sure if my visit would’ve been in the spring I would’ve enjoyed my short stroll. I found this small garden to be a quaint place to go sit and read a book or enjoy some outdoor time. I did not find it to be a walking garden to gaze at flowers etc. however, there is a real cool tree in the back. Personally, I would not make a special trip to come back.

Love this garden! This is a very serene garden, and an enjoyable place to appreciate its beauty. My family and I had a little picnic in the middle of the garden. It was lovely!

Frankly a bit embarrassed as a Pasadena local resident. Poorly maintained and not appealing compared to other gardens such as the one in San Marino.

What a wonderful hidden gem - I never knew it existed. I found it when I was looking at a google map of the area and the garden popped up. It's the COVID-19 days and as we were walking around while everyone kept their distance from each other. I love that they have so many sitting areas to relax and take in the quiet peaceful atmosphere. More cities need to add these gardens to their neighborhoods.

It’s nice as a community garden to sit down and enjoy a peaceful afternoon in the shade; however, it is not a destination in itself. It is very small and overgrown. I like that it is overgrown because it gives more cover for animals. The birds were singing and some flowers were blooming. Overall, nice if you are in the area; but, not a place to go out of your way to get to.

This was a bit overgrown, but still an enjoyable experience. Lot's of nestled seating areas makes it seems like a great place to hang out with a book.

Lovely little place to walk around – and for free!

We spent an enjoyable few hours here wandering through all the different sections of the garden with various themes. Some of the cactus were huge!

There are lots of seating areas around (mostly under the shade of trees) which was great for us as we chose to visit on a particularly hot day!

This would be a great place to come with a picnic or a good book to relax, chill out and enjoy the scenery in a peaceful setting.

This beautiful set of gardens also include a library and art museum. Walking through stunning gardens showcase Africa, China, Japan, Australia, Roses, Bamboo forest and more. It is an environmental masterpiece. Travelers who visit the Los
Angeles area should take a day to take in this fabulous site. Having high tea is also a treat to complete the experience.

I live about a 3 min. drive from the garden. I LOVE IT! It goes to show what vision, good design, and dedicated volunteers can create out of nothing. It's lost it's 2 founders, and is now being managed differently. I miss not going to the Art On Palm event there. Not sure why they can't include them ie. a great event and would earn the garden a nice income. Perhaps this needs to be re-thought for the future. Still love the place. Hope it succeeds going forward.
