Just get our of the crowds and bustle of nearby Silicon Valley for an afternoon or a day of hiking and no-thrills sightseeing -- you can hardly beat this spare, simple open space!

We stopped at Russian Ridge Open Space Reserve. Its free and is along Skyline Boulevard. Its good place for a hike. There are very good views of the San Francisco Bay Area.

I love this place. It's a scenic route leading up to this preserve. A couple of miles of winding road from either side (Palo Alto or Saratoga); nothing excessive. When you reach there, you have an awesome view of the bay area even parts of San Francisco. On the other side, you have several hiking options; all offering open view.
