A Sacramento Landmark

The Crest Theater is a great place to catch a live performance or a classic film. I recently enjoyed "It's Jester Joke" featuring the comic styling of Bianca Del Rio (winner of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 6) at the Crest. It's a wonderful setting to really engage with the artist. And, my daughter and I love watching "White Christmas" at this historic theater every year. There is plenty of parking and dining nearby so it would be a great place for a date. As a single gal, I wouldn't know much about that. But, I observe many couples and it appears that they are having a good time.

First Time at the Crest theatre.There to see Felipe Esparza,very funny stand up comedian. Nice place, an older building but a great location right in the middle of many places to eat. Plenty of parking garages to park, wise idea them up ahead of time.

Beautiful Old Theater

The Crest Theater is an Art Deco dream from the past. From the neon outside to the breathtaking lighting in the theater, it is truly a masterpiece of a bygone era. We came for the Access Sacramento Film Festival. This venue really framed these entries. It was a great experience.

Cool old movie house

It takes you back to the old movie days, it great because they have a lot of music venues there, we recently saw Benise, It was a great Show.

Classic old theatre

Great place to show the youngsters or to go down memory lane. Certainly has been renovated to its past glory. Besides movies they have frequent music venues.

When you want to experience what it was like go to the movies or theatre event back in the day: your grams time check out Crest theatre! It is full of charm of bygone era without dissing the current trend of eating in your chair and reclining for that theatre-my own living room experience. Of course pearls are optional and a tie clip totally unnecessary but this is the place that calls up those memories and would embrace you in your Sunday best. Enjoy and look around, the architecture is understated and well worth your attention.

Great Old Theater

First time at The Crest was a success. $15 parking garage right around the corner. Thoroughly enjoyed the sold out Kip Moore show with the wife. Sound was great, no weird echo or vibrations. Seats were fine but not super plush. Security was ample, and in charge but not intimidating. Really dug the old theater and if the right artist comes along, I would buy tickets again at this venue.

The Last Grand Movie Theater in Sacramento

This wonderful theater, with all the flourishes one would expect knowing it was built in the late 1940s, now offers some films, but more live performances. Both the sound system and acoustics are fine for either movie or live performances. Most recently, we saw Oscar-nominated live and animated shorts, as well as those vying for a statue in the short documentary category. These are hard to find, and we really appreciate that the Crest has consistently made them available for more than a decade. The thrust stage can make live performances feel more intimate, which we like. You will be disappointed if you expect cushy reclining seats. This house has traditional movie theater seats, but leg room is perfectly adequate. Although we did not purchase food or drink, we could see that offerings were varied and included wine. I was unhappy with the fee that would have been charged if we had ordered online, so we went early, purchased our tickets, ate light dinners before each event, and returned right on time for our shows. (Yes, we were happier spending those dollars saved on a service fee for appetizers at The Claim Jumper, a short walk away.)

Take a trip back in time

There are few theatres left that are as old as this one. Originally built in 1912 as the Empress, it was later revamped in 1949 and has pretty much been the same since including all the cool neon lights. Very ornate ceiling, walls and lighting. Besides movies, many concerts are performed here and while the sound is not ideal as some modern venues, it sounded fine for me this week when I went to see Herman's Hermits. The bathrooms are pleasantly clean and decorated. If you like to snack, bring your own as there is no snack bar but plenty of restaurants on the same block.
