We went to Sherwin Sherwood Inn about half a dozen times. Each time we enjoyed the weekend special dinner of steak and lobster. The last time was a huge disappointment. The salad that had been crisp and fresh was limp. The vegetables that had been cooked perfectly were overcooked and soft. The steak that had been a perfect 'rare' was "medium well". There was no yummy bread pudding available for dessert. The baked potato was fine. As usual, we ordered it with "everything". For the first time it came with a small cup of bacon bits. No one mentioned that there was an upcharge for the bacon bits. We don't appreciate surprises when the bill comes! Another surprise on the bill was that a cup of hot tea was $3. A tea bag and a cup of hot water for $3?? On prior visits a cup of tea was half that. Service was friendly and prompt.
I asked if there had been a change in chefs. As a matter of fact, it was the owner who had been in the kitchen that night. Hint to owner: stay out of the kitchen. We won't be back.

What's old is new again, and that's exactly what the Sherwood Inn offers karaoke singers and booze hounds alike. Great bar food, authentic mixed crowd of the 60+ and under. The atmosphere is always fun and chill, everyone is there to have a good time, along down some drinks or beer and crunch a potato skin.
Not for those on a diet, or the shy non public singers. Put in your name for a song, grab a mic and go for it! And for the Pokemon Go players, Sherwood Inn is a gym :)

Great friendly bartenders. If you want to hang with the locals and get a strong drink and you don't care about fancy. They have karaoke, trivia night, sports. Something is going on each night.

As with everything in my life these days I choose places based on how well I can muffle/disguise/mute/conceal the rotten behavior of two toddlers and still technically eat in public. This restaurant, from all outward appearances, seemed to be the perfect place to drag two unruly wild things to: a little dirty, a little unkempt, a bit rough around the edges. It all matched so perfectly.
The inside was a bit cleaner, but seriously dated. I'll be honest, though. At this point in child-rearing, if I can sit unmolested, in a quiet space, with no grubby little hands pawing at me or my food and that place happens to be a cardboard box in the Guadalupe Dump, I'm down! My point is, my bar is set quite low. Thanks, kids!
The food is your basic American fare - hamburgers, steaks, chicken, a few kinds of fish, pasta - nothing exciting. I ordered the chicken piccata, which wasn't bad. My munchkins both had the London broil. They both ate it, but don't take that as a recommendation because my daughter also the crayon pieces they gave her, a chunk of paper napkin and a tab of butter and was willing to call it a day.
Overall, while the food was ok, I just couldn't get past the smell of a million years of old food and drink that seeps from the pores of the place.
I can't imagine that anyone planing a trip to San Jose would ever somehow stumble across this dump as a recommendation, but if that happens, I'm sorry.
