This is a nice open park without many amenities. It is used for events. Nearby are some very interesting buildings, especially the Aguilar House which is adjacent.

My grand kids and I wanted to stretch our legs driving up from San Diego on Friday afternoon. We stopped by this park thinking it was safe and provided rest rooms. Rest rooms were horribly kept no toilet paper. As we emerged out of the restroom I was approached by a homeless woman stated it was not safe for the kids there. She stated it was " a man's park" and as i scanned the park it was clearly beseiged by homelss people mainly men. I thanked her and immediately left. This is a very nice park in the center of downtown San Juan Capistrano and clearly unsafe for families with young children.

Sure, it's a place to have a picnic. Drink a bottle of wine. Take your kids.... or maybe a bit of romance....Nice that it is here, but did not do anything for me. Plants overgrown and falling back to the earth because roots systems did not have time to develop because of overwatering..... in this dry desert climate......

Nice park. Close to other San Juan Capistrano shops and attractions. Bring a picnic and spend an afternoon.

This is a very historic and cool park, but please watch out for the homeless. A lot of the homeless population in San Juan use this park to bathe and sleep in. Be careful!

I understand that the big grassy park off El Camino Real is very pleasant and provides a nice place to read historic markers and relax but, that being said, it is called "historic town center" park for a reason. That reason is because a great number of historic adobes and other monumental buildings are situated around this park close to the mission.
This is a truly wonderful historic district and we took the time to walk the El Camino Real and the Camino Capistrano main streets to investigate the "history" in the historic town center district.
The area is heavy on historic markers. Take some time and read all about the history in this historic town center district.

We went to the Mission but had seen this park on the Friends of the Library walking tour. We went back later when things were happening and briefly listened to the music and saw the vendors. I liked that they posted a sign that said that everyone was welcome because it looked like a private event.
Not that many places to sit, I recall. It is just what it says, a park in the middle of town. When we left we saw three people got parking tickets across the street from it, because they didn't read the sign.

This small park has some history and is a pleasant place to walk and I am sure it is a great place for local community events, such as the Summer concerts. However as a tourist there is not a great deal to see so I suggest you head straight for the Mission and spend your time there as that really is a fabulous place to visit.

This is a great place to walk around. It is small but right next to the Mission and great little shops.
