my husband and I were recently staying in the area and knew we just had to make a stop in Avila. We had spent time there when the beach first reopened in the early 2000's. We were happy to see that is it still pristine and the shops and restaurants are thriving.

What a lovely clean beach easy accessible by escalators lots of beds. Lovely clear water had a fabulous time.

Parking along the main road was ample - Large expanses of hard flat sand made running for the doggies easy - The waves came in ripples so no doggies got washed out to the ocean- All the dogs were friendly and sociable! Please DO NOT bring your dog if they are not good around all dogs big and small as well as kids cause there were plenty of all of them.

Avila Beach and the adjoining harbor are a fun stop. There were seals sunning on a floating dock and two restaurants at the end of the wooden pier. There are nice public restrooms.

Bring the fur babies to Dog Beach all day long they can run free and play with all the other dogs running free..sure hope your dog is sociable or you and your pet will have to go Life guards on watch here at dog beach..not Fishermans beach next beach over maybe you and your mean pooch can hide out there.Try and park on the Ocean side of these beaches as the traffic can get fast,heavy and brutal as Diablo Canyon nuclear plant workers could care less about you..your kids...pets..whatever as they rush in or out from the power plant racing to get to work or back home..add to that hordes of tourist...fishermen hauling their boats down the road..huge RV's lumbering about...people on bikes and walking where there are no paths for them so they ride and walk in the street...a crazy piece of road here make sure your life Insurance is paid up before going on the weekend.....

We walked down the sandy lot and fringe onto a great beach with lots of rooms to run and play.
All the dogs we met along the way, were on leases or with their human side by side and uninterested in other dogs.
Bodhi, our Jack, although an older guy, walked in the curing edges of the coean and ran along the wet sand beach. He played with his ball, until he could not think about running another step.
After, it was just a small walk back to the car, a wash off with a bottle of water and away we went to find some lunch. It was a great time.

Great place to take the dog and grand kids to play. Easy parking. Due to ridge to the north out of the stronger winds and warmer than our northern beaches.

When ever we have the in-laws kids in town, this
is usually a must. It is fun & safe to walk barefoot
in the sand along the ice-cold Ocean. While it is
possible to swim here, the danger of hypothermia
is too vivid.
Since this is a popular beach, it can be crowded with
people, dogs, picnics, fires, & even horses...so it is
not really peaceful.
Just before sunset is sometimes a relaxing time to
walk here.
After you clean your footsies, it is a short drive to either
end of Avila for eats. It is typical tourist fare & nothing
special.

Great place for our "best friends" but please be sure to pick up after your pooch. There are bags at all the entrances if you didn't bring any.
Be sure to check the tide level before your visit as the beach is quite narrow at high tide.
Also good for summer time bonfires (fire rings are there from March - November)
